When you are watching them replace the dropped ceiling at the office where you work and wonder "hmm...I wonder if celing track comes in 12" openings - that would make great grid material". And then you actually look it up and are disappointed when it doesn't.

Ain't that the truth although for me living in an urban setting and seeing all the lawns.......I just think......wow, if you changed half of that lawn to SFG you could feed your whole family and a few homeless people besides.

You know you are a square foot gardener when...
You go out to eat with your husband and you finish your meal and you are eyeballing the to go container to see how many peat pots u can fit in it after you wash it. And you share this with your beloved and he says no honey, you know you are a square foot gardener when you go to home depot or lowes with your construction worker, wood worker husband and he is ready to leave before you!
-Jen, who is posting this painfully from my phone in the middle of hubby and my first date night in over a year and risking the rath of boffer!

Okay Boffer........I agree with you here except for ONE thing.....WE (the wife) are the better half! and the sooner you men get that figured out, the easier your life will become. You are the OTHER half.

Re: You Know You're a Square Foot Gardener When...
Hey now, my mamma didn't raise no dummy. I know where my better half permanently resides. I continually tell her, and the public, that I "married up." And, it's not even questionable. For her to put up with my guff for the past 12+ years, really must be punishment for something she did in a former life. But, whatevs....she's trapped now....lol.
You know you're an SFG'r when.....you give your mother-in-law a tutorial on the hoophouse because it "might" get to freezing while you are gone.
...you're supposed to be "out of town" and you still make the Top20 active posters list for the day!! Yikes....addiction warning!

You know you're a SFGer when you begin to understand that flippin' cow paddies is an important part of a well-balanced and healthy gardening process!

Yep, totally done that. Ended up bugging Home Depot service lady so bad, that she called up on her favorite contractor customer and had him walk me "down the aisle" and show me what I was looking for.

I have to drag this one back up. (There are versions with video, but I like the musical production on this one the best.) SFW!

You are an EVIL woman! I will be driving Hubby crazy singing this all day now! Love it!
PS - while I was there, I pulled up one of the John Denver version as well. Nothin' against JD, but he just can't beat Guy Clark on this one!

Yes, I saw the JD ones. There are numerous versions out there, including more by Guy Clark. I played everything I could find, and the link I posted is my favorite!
P.S. Sing it, girl!

My favorite gardening song
"The Garden Song" is my favorite gardening song. I always sing it to myself when planting. I raised my kids on the John Denver version, but after I found a Pete Seeger version on YouTube, I have to say I like it, too. Arlo's version is great, too, if you're in a peppy mood. His "extra verse" added for garden haters is so true.
Peter Seeger version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u90qRE2F7CM
Arlo Guthrie version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QTj45cTB4U&NR=1
John Denver version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3FkaN0HQgs&NR=1
"You know you're a SFG'er if"... you find yourself changing the words to the above song to "inch by inch, grid by grid".
