Mine is ordered, just waiting to hear! I would think it will be a while for me. I usually plant around Halloween.

Re: Fall is For Garlic Planting
I looked at Rohrer Seeds and they have Inchelium Red Softneck and "White" Softneck garlics. I have been replanting the same California silverskin for years and am wondering if I should buy the "White" softneck to compare. Last year I had to supplement my stock with a California grown softneck (Christopher Ranch) from the grocery store.

I have a general question. The inner cloves of the garlic head are smaller than the outer ones. Until now I have only planted the larger outer one. Will the inner smaller ones produce smaller heads the following summer? Or, do genetics ensure the heads will be full size?

I have always planted the smaller cloves right in with all of the larger cloves, and I have never noticed any significant difference in the size of the bulbs when harvested. I think once they start rooting and developing bulbs the develop at about the same rate.

I don't have much experience with softnecks here in the winter wonderland, but I love to experiment with new varieties. Yeah, you should try the white softneck to compare them to the ones you been growing.

Re: Fall is For Garlic Planting
I have the same experience as far as size of cloves, I plant all of them and the head of garlic each produces doesn’t seem to matter.
As far as hardneck vs softneck varieties, I only grew softneck once, and they all died over the winter. But I am in Ohio with cold winters. I grow hard neck varieties. I do like to experiment a bit with varieties though! Do it!
