Re: Senior Gardeners
Hi senior! I'm turning 76 and live in California. As far as I know about northern gardening, garlic cloves can be planted and covered with mulch (Like E-Z Straw with Tack or dry fall leaves) to protect them through the winter.
I hope someone else in northern regions can help. You can also check for an online vegetable planting guide through your county Master Gardeners or Ag Extension. I think northern folks mostly start their seedlings indoors under appropriate lights (even shop lights) and plant out when the weather is warm enough.
In the back of the book (ALL NEW Square Foot Gardening, Ed. 1, 2 or 3, are general planting guidelines and help with determining when to start seeds indoors. Photo of the 3rd Edition.
