im a bit confused at 84 why not haha. computer nerd here, /mn cold. how to protect direct seed sow in winter. ideas for covering, have straw etc. tyi susan Very Happy

I'm turning 76 and live in California. As far as I know about northern gardening, garlic cloves can be planted and covered with mulch (Like E-Z Straw with Tack or dry fall leaves) to protect them through the winter.

I hope someone else in northern regions can help. You can also check for an online vegetable planting guide through your county Master Gardeners or Ag Extension. I think northern folks mostly start their seedlings indoors under appropriate lights (even shop lights) and plant out when the weather is warm enough.
