Caught myself doing that just this morning! I am in Sioux Falls for the week (the Big City compared to where I live) and driving through town I keep looking at all the little houses that would be cute to live in - except for the bad sun:box ratio!

You do a happy dance in the nursery upon finding the 5th ingredient for MM blended compost after searching for days on end.

-A photo like this gets you excited:
- Your shoveling MM into your new box and get angry at yourself when 1/4 C falls over the side onto the grass.
- You scoop up that 1/4 C MM and place it lovingly in the box.

Re: You Know You're a Square Foot Gardener When...
. . . you are a little annoyed with the rest of your life (son getting married, daughter, her hubby and baby moving in, house overflowing with things in transition, canning and making freezer jam of zillions of plums, and too many other things) getting in the way of being able to get on this forum because these people are my friends who understand me! Ok the wedding was actually great and my son married a very nice young lady and they are on their honeymoon and its mostly nice to have my daughter and family move in. But my house is still overflowing, the jars of plums are still on my kitchen counter and I am wondering where I should put them!

When you ask for a togo container at a restaurant to take home your empty shrimp tails, crab, and mussle shells. Hubby still gets embarrassed when I do

You cheer when it's -20 - the wind is stirring up the snow enough so that the garden boxes that have garlic and multiplier onions are now safe and sound under about 2-3 feet of snow.

When you absolutely love scooping up horse and cow manure to make your next batch of hot compost with... sick puppy I know!
Re: You Know You're a Square Foot Gardener When...
When you try desperately to figure out how to disguise a worm bin from Hubby so that you don't waste a winter's worth (4-5 months of snow cover here ) of compostables because it is -20, with -50 wind chill and there is NO WAY you are going to hike through the snow to the outdoor bin!

Goosegirl,
I'm sure your Hubby loves you enough to let you have your way with the worm bin?
Face up to him and tell him you're doing it for him and your family.
On the other hand, be sneaky and 'fess up when springtime arrives and he never noticed a worm bin in the house.

He puts up with most of my other hare-brained schemes around here, but an indoor worm bin could just be grounds for divorce!

Could you not find just a little corner tucked away somewhere? The furnace room maybe? Warm and dark and out of the way. Until the pipes burst.
It is easier for me as I no longer have a DH so I cannot really say that I would have gotten away with it myself but I like to think I would and that if he found out it would be OK.
If your Hubby threatens divorce, then you have to make up your own mind, him or the worms. In my case I would have given up the worms if he genuinely felt so bad about it and it was not a case of him being in control, but he was the dearest man and never ever thought to dominate me.
Currently I have my Worm Hilton in my living room, tucked away in the corner. No one has ever mentioned it. I must admit I would not go out of my way to point it out (only you here on this guest book know about it) because I realise some people will freak out and will be uncomfortable with thousands of worms in the vicinity.
Re: You Know You're a Square Foot Gardener When...
If only! Hubby's office/computer room/man cave is in the basement, right next to the furnace room! Thankfully it is not a control issue, as he is the dearest, sweetest, mildest man I have ever known. But, it is an OCD thing and a would be a thoroughly disgusting thing. I am married to MONK! (Nature...DIRTY!)Kelejan wrote:Goosegirl wrote:Kelejan wrote:Goosegirl,

PS - Yes, he gets the Sharona 'eyerolls' from me, and I have learned not to question the silverware count, just search out where I have left a fork or spoon!

I don't even like sun at all -- or at least that used to be the case, until I took up gardening. My ideal imaginary house used to be deep in shady woods with softly rolling hills. Now it's flat, way too bright, has room for a greenhouse, and I care about water rights.

I am finding that wormy people are a very a compassionate and caring group.
