Easter Square-Foot Gardener
Hi! I've been reading about square-foot gardening for about a year now. This year, our family decided to finally build one for Easter. We've never grown our own food, so this is pretty new to us. My family had a 3-acre garden when I was a small child, but that's a whole different scale - and I only helped harvest.
My husband built a basic 4x4 raised bed; however, he used pre-treated wood, which I informed him was a no-no (his parents bought that one from us so they could use it). BTW, my husband and I disagreed ALOT on how to build it - I'm more by-the-book; he's more by-the-seat-of-his-pants. LOL!
Anyways, the 2nd time around, I browsed pictures and found a more ornate design and we built it - it looks beautiful! I'm still trying to decide whether or not to paint the outside of the box and trellis white today. We still have to fill it with Mel's mix and do some planting - I'm hoping to be done by this weekend. I will post pics when we do.

Re: Easter Square-Foot Gardener
Welcome fulfam, You and your husband sound like my wife and I only in reverse, growing your own foodis very rewarding, this my first year at SFG'ing but in the past have been able to earn extra income by selling veggies at the farmers market. Plus eating fresh veggies year round is wonderful!
Good Luck

sounds like y'all have a good start. Take it slow...read as ya go.."I do it still" and have fun! It's always fun getting the family involved in gardening. After having helped with a truck patch garden as a kid I find this much more enjoyable.
