Re: Catalog season has begun!
No fair! I've only gotten one, Southern Exposure. There are quite a few in this thread I've never heard of and I'm off to request them.
Re: Catalog season has begun!
Baker Creek is my all time fave, now the Gettle family now has Comstock-Ferre Seeds.
I can easily spend a day reading their catalogs from cover to cover, it's a history lesson.

More seed catalogs
Hi,
I like your idea of raised boxes using SFG! I am constantly on the lookout for seeds for veggies/fruit/herbs/edible flowers and plants. Here is one of the companies I came across recently and think you might like them too.
http://www.sustainableseedco.com
Try them and see if they won't have just exactly what you need.
Another on is called -- www.rareseeds.com between the two I think you can more than you have money for and you can find some real good info on each item.

Re: Catalog season has begun!
I just got my Comstock Seed Guide for 2012. Its a beauty. Being a New England company, I hope to find seeds that grow well in Maine.
rareseeds.com is another name for Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. Love their catalog, too.

I got Shumway's yesterday, and I found the onion plants I want for about 1/2 the price JohnnySeeds wants for them! My shopping ventures may not be done. To quote Wilma and Betty: "CHAAAAAAAARGE IT!"

Note to self: Next year, plan ahead. Start behaving sooner. Like at least by Thanksgiving.

Re: Catalog season has begun!
Wow, I'm lovin' the prices in the Comstock catalog, a Connecticut seed company that started in business over 200 years ago. Anywhere from 90 cents to 1.85 a packet and the amts of seeds are very reasonable for the price; 20 peppers, 300 carrots, 150 cabbages, which are good amts for small SFGrs like me. I don't need 100 pepper seeds or 500 carrot seeds in my small plots.
100 DiCicco Broccoli seeds for $1.25, 20 Boston Pickling cukes for .90 cents, 150 Iceberg lettuce seeds for a dollar, Black Seeded Simpson for only .80 cents, 100 All American parsnip seeds (which you have to buy each year) for a dollar, 20 Calif Wonder peppers for .90 cents , 75 Swiss chard seeds 1.25, 20 tomato seeds from 1.00 to 1.95 depending on variety. And shipping charges are only $2.50 no matter how many packets you buy with a min. $5.00 order. Love these prices. I'm planning on my order already.
All are heirloom seeds originating years ago, no hybrids. To order a catalog go to www.comstockferre.com like I did.
I'm still waiting for my Johnnys.

Re: Catalog season has begun!
Well, it's official. No Johnny's for Christmas. We are leaving tomorrow morning for New Jersey, and it didn't arrive today. However, I have decided, in the spirit of the season, to not care, and have a wonderful holiday!
And the same to all of you!
(I probably won't be around here much until Tuesday, so I won't get to see who else isn't around!)

Re: Catalog season has begun!
Well, I have to jump in again, with my favorite tomato catalog from last year: TomatoFest http://store.tomatofest.com/Tomato_Seeds_New_Varieties_for_2011_s/2.htm , a california company that rendered very good service, and provided some great new-to-me heirloom varieties (we planted 11 kinds), two of the real winners came from TomatoFest: Black Sea Man and Dagma's Perfection. The Dagma's Perfection ripened up a bit late in the summer, but this large yellow tomato was perfectly yummy and made a particularly beautiful and tasty tomato marmalade for Christmas gift giving. Black Sea Man was our go-to tomato for BLTs. Nonna

Re: Catalog season has begun!
I received the Territorial Seed catalog today! I had already received Baker Creek, Seed Savers Exchange, Park Seed and Thompson & Morgan. I enjoy reading the catalogs and making a list of items that I would like to grow. I don't know about the rest of you but I always have to go over my seed selection list a few times and make it more realistic. There is only so much room. Let the garden planning for 2012 begin!
