Wheeee, hubby gave me the green light for me to buy all my square foot gardening needs tomorrow!!! He may regret setting me loose....I'm so excited to start my SFG adventure!!! Special thanks to my mom, Llama Momma, for already answering my panicked phone calls concerning my hunt for all the ingredients for Mel's Mix. Love you!

Congrats and It's so cool to see that your mom inspired you to grow your own SFG! I'm hoping my boys will grow up with fond memories of our gardening together and want to continue gardening when they're out on their own someday.

Thanks everybody!!! I was able to pick up all that I needed and amazingly was able to fit it (just barely) into my Prius. The best part was picking out the seeds. So much fun!! Hubby is going with me tomorrow to pick up the wood. Thanks for your support everyone!!!!

You picked it up as well, GWN.
Belle, I think your DH will be delighted once you get going and show what can be produced. I bet LLama Momma had some influence on him with the wonderful results she gets. It`s great that he is being so supportive of you.

Oh, I'm so glad he is letting me indulge. When I told him that he doesn't have to do anything to help me, he looked a little sad. So I'm "letting" him do the building for me (haha, like I could assemble anything, I'd nail my own thumb). He's excited for the fresh produce too. He loves broccoli and cauliflower and sugar snap peas.
My niece and nephew got really excited today when they saw me hauling stuff out of my car. I let them look at the seed packets I got and my nephew (5 yrs old) took the seed packet of carrots, took my hand and said, "okay, Aunt Laura, let's go plant our carrots now!!!" Broke my heart a little to explain that we needed to do a little more prep work first. But I can't wait to show them how we get our veggies!!

Re: It has begun....
Well here they are! I'm a bit annoyed because now I see in the later afternoon sun that one of our little trees is shading some of my box. Sigh. I make have to get hubby out with the saw to get rid of that thing. We have waaaay too many trees in the yard (GIANT old elm trees. I can't stand them!!!!) and this was the only consistantly sunny (and FLAT) spot!!
And while I was drilling the grid onto the box, this big guy followed me all OVER the garden. I think he was attracted to the vibration of the drill. Daddy long legs are friends, right? They'll eat other bugs?? (hah, wow, way to completely invade the picture with my shadow. He was a quick guy though, I'm surprised I even got this shot).

Looks lovely start
Put lettuce, spinach, broccoli in hte plot that gets some shade. They often can not take all day summer sun.

Belle,
Congrats on the gardening green light. I tried to get mine last year, but it seemed to be stuck on that endless red color. That might have worked out okay. I got to read "the book again."
This year not only did I get the green light, I got lots of darling hubby's expert help with the building and mixing. He even volunteered to water while I was gone for a few days. "What do I have to do?" he asked. I sweetly replied, " Just go out every morning and check the progress, talk sweetly to the sproutlings and water every other day." his reply went something like this, "Don't push your luck! I am not talking to some plant. I'll water 'em and that's it!"
Sush, don't tell anyone, but I think he did actually talk to them cuz they were al doing great when I got home.
Welcome to the family and good luck. Sounds like you have lots of support from hubby and mama!
