Baker Creek. Not sure what happened here.countrynaturals wrote:I love this seed company! Good selection, great prices, free shipping, free gift every time, prompt delivery, nice packaging -- what more could anyone want?
I may have just placed my last order for this year, but you never know.

Wouldn't that be loverley? I'm reading a novel about a woman who inherits a rundown mansion in England, complete with huge gardens, a big conservatory, and a ton of money to restore them all.AtlantaMarie wrote:Just got Seed Savers yesterday... Wish I had time to do just that! ;-)
Re: Catalog season has begun!
All of my seed orders arrived today, so I am officially ready for spring!

I have not even started yet. Well, I guess I did today when I went to Tractor Supply and bought some seed potatoes.OhioGardener wrote:All of my seed orders arrived today, so I am officially ready for spring!

Re: Catalog season has begun!
Has anyone received seed catalogs? I have only received 3, BC, Johnny's and Territorial. The selection of varieties seems to be more limited than prior years. I wonder if it has anything to do with the run on seeds in 2020. ??
Re: Catalog season has begun!
I have received over a dozen seed catalogs so far this year, some from companies I have never heard of before. Quite a few varieties of seeds are out of stock, but apparently it is not all because of the panic buying issue. Some of it is because of crop failure, and some of it is because of disease or insect damage. One of the seeds we always use is the Blue Lake Bush Bean, which is not available this year due to crop failures. Fortunately, I saved some seeds from our plants last year.
High Mowing Organic Seeds included an article in their e-letter about insect damage affecting the carrot industry. Here is a short quote from their article:
You may have noticed that certain carrot varieties have become temporarily unavailable or backordered. This issue is being caused by a surging population of a pest that has a particular taste for Umbellifers, the family of plants that carrots belong to.
All carrots grown for seed in North America and Europe are biennials. This means that the plants will take two seasons to fully mature and require a period of cold temperatures to induce flowering and the production of seeds. Biennial crops can be tricky; their extended stay in the field can further expose them to the damaging pressures of climate, pests and disease. One insect pest that is specifically wreaking havoc on the production of carrot seed in North America is the Lygus Bug.

Re: Catalog season has begun!
I was a Lowe's this afternoon, and they have their seed racks out and filled. Doesn't seem to be any shortage of seeds there. I picked up some Rutabaga and Nasturtium seeds, just because they were there...

The 2022 Seed Catalog Season has begun! Received the first two catalogs today, one from Rohrer Seeds and one from High Mowing Organic Seeds.

Re: Catalog season has begun!
Went to the post office today to pick up the mail after a long weekend, and there were so many seed catalogs that they could not get all of them into the box - though the did try to cram them in. Had go into the counter to pick up the rest of them.
