Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Feels like fall here. High of 80ºF today, with a low of 63ºF tonight and high of 70ºF tomorrow. Then supposed to be in the mid- to high-70's the rest of the week, with a chance of rain Monday and Tuesday. Good growing weather!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
3 more blistering hot days (105+) then maybe the triple-digits will be over for this year and I can get back to some serious gardening.

Plenty of rain here, too, in New Orleans.OhioGardener wrote:Finally, the much needed rain! The drought is over for this year! Can turn off the drip irrigation timer for a while....
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Here in Great Britain we are having strange weather that is perfect for blight on potatoes & tomatoes warm moist and not much wind to move it around .
I was looking to having a bumper crop of Glasshouse tomatoes five weeks ago . 12 days ago the leaves looked a bit limp gave them a tomato feed and on day 10 it became very hot . Almost all the leaves turned yellow at first I thugth the high temps had cooked the toms then ten days ago realised I'd been ell & truly zapped with blight .
No amount of copper based blight spray will change things so I've been cutting off all yellow & yellowing leaves each day & picking all toms that are slightly ripe . Bringing the tams indoors , giving them a weak veg concentration wash of baby bottle sterilant for a fw minutes , rinsing them off then putting them on trays to dry off & ripen up .
So far I've managed to get about 30 pounds of toms this way .

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
CC, thinking of you this morning as I watch the weather report. It looks like you'll be getting that rain you asked for, maybe more than you wanted. We're expecting rain here too, but more towards the eastern part of the state and up your way. Lots more!
I've noticed a couple of trees with leaves turning already, and even one with leaves on the ground. It's that time of year when we have a couple of cool nights, then it heats up again. I've enjoyed the cooler weather of the past couple of days, mostly for the drier air. Can we have a long, beautiful fall for a change, pleeeeease?

No triple digits in the 10 day, so now I can get back to some serious gardening.

Currently 92° and feels like 104°. Humidity @ 65% down from 72% this morning. My beads of sweat are sweating!countrynaturals wrote:No triple digits in the 10 day, so now I can get back to some serious gardening.

Waiting for it to cool off before planting Brassicas, peas, lettuce, carrots. Garlic and Fava Beans will go in late Oct early Nov depending on the weather.

NO MORE TRIPLE DIGITS! I swear everything in the garden grew an inch overnight. Gonna plant lots of stuff, today. I feel like a kid on Christmas morning.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Perfect after getting almost an inch of rain yesterday!
They're still cleaning up from that tornado five or six weeks ago. I now have three huge holes in my privacy hedge out back. But at least the fallen tree parts are gone. Just have to remember not to run out to the compost pile in my underwear anymore.

Hurricane Dorian
Hurricane Dorian is making it's way west & they're still not really sure where it will finally hit. One model shows it coming through Atlanta, although I don't think that will happen. But Yolos may get some good rain.
As of 1 am, NOAA is expecting it to follow the eastern seaboard. So Walshevek, just fyi...
The folk in FL are apparently already expecting the highest tides of the year (called King tides) within the next few days. This little weather system is going to drive them even higher.

I just read that it's reached Category 5! On its way to the Bahamas right now. After that, it's anybody's guess.AtlantaMarie wrote:Hurricane Dorian is making it's way west & they're still not really sure where it will finally hit. 180 mph sustained winds! I almost got blown off a hill by a 40 mph gust one time. I can't even imagine anything even half this bad.Scorpio Rising wrote:Brace yourselves if you are in the path of this monster.countrynaturals wrote:I just read that it's reached Category 5! Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
By the end of the 10-day, we'll be in the 80s, with lows in the 50s. That's ridiculous for this time of year. I guess this will be my last week in the pool.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Take a look at these projected temperatures. It is never this hot in Sept. I think it is way too hot to plant my fall Broccoli, Peas, Carrots, etc. 97*F is insane for Sept. Maybe the hurricane will bring temps down without blowing us away. I don't think it will come anywhere near us because we are not on the coast but just maybe it will bring lower temps.

Just for grins, I went back a year to see what was happening the first week of September, 2018. I know what I was doing -- hiding from foul, smoky air.

Still hot and humid here in Ottawa Canada. Today 88F (31C) but feels like 104F (41C) with the humidity. Cooling off later in the week with a high of only 66F (19C) on Saturday.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
That's funny, Suz... I was thinking that your photo of the fire looked so much like a sunset and then I read your sentence under the photo. Hope it stays far away from you and that they are able to extinguish it quickly.
Hurricane Dorian is just about finished with us here on the Cape. The rain has pretty much stopped but the winds are still blowing. I'm holding off a few more minutes before I go out and do my errands. Don't want anything to land on my car, but looking out the windows I don't see anything like the debris that we had with the previous tornado.
