TD, Can you bump the snow photos thread for me by posting this photo and the aerial view of your sleeping garden. As you know, Sanderson just loves snow photos.

Besides signaling snow, are they good birds? They look so cute.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Yes, they are nice having around. They are ground feeders, so they clean up the seeds the other birds drop on the ground. Seems that they were built upside down, though. They are dark gray on top, so they look like pepper sprinkled on the ground when they are in the snow, but when they fly the only thing that is visible is the white underside.

We had a little frost on the grass when I woke up yesterday but it does not look like it was heavy enough to kill the tomato plants.

Mild weather for this time of year BUT the rain is relentless. Cloudy skies day after day. Can't decide whether the plants are better off inside under lights or outside under cloudy skies. Rain, rain go away and come back in July. I have not seen the sun in days. Looks like next week there are a few days with the sun shinning. Looking back over the last two weeks we have had 1 day of clear weather and 1 day of mostly sunny. Every other day has been overcast all day or rainy.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
And don't forget the thunderstorms, Yolos. In mid-February! Sigh.....
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We have had 7.39" of rain here since October, half of that just in February.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
More snow predicted. It was way too warm and dry for December and January and now is trying to make up for it. Of course shearing is next weekend and lambing should start that week. The driveway is so deep in snow it takes 4wd and the truck to get in and out. I don't think the shearer drives a truck.
Nothing happening garden wise except I ordered seeds.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We're under a winter storm warning here in Central Oregon.
Snowfall estimates range from 15" to 28" by Wednesday, depending upon the source. Every day, I check AccuWeather, Wunderground (there are two stations within a mile of my house), NOAA, and Weather Channel. I also have my own sensors.
Currently, the snow is heavy and wet and having trouble sticking. That should change by early evening, if not before.
Fortunately, I stocked up on groceries and wine the other day. I imagine that the stores are packed.

Good luck. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
Don't forget to charge all of your batteries, including the big jump-starter thingie for your car, and make sure you have spare bulbs for your flashlights. We got caught flatfooted when our power went out during our snowstorm. We also discovered that those great big 3-wick candles are great to leave on the bathroom floor all night. They won't fall over, they smell great, and they last forever. We also have a lantern that uses 4 D batteries and a tiny battery-operated "snake" light I can wear around my neck and be "hands-free" to navigate in the dark. Gotta be able to read at night with no TV.
All things considered, we were pretty lucky. We have propane for cooking and hot water and a wood stove for heat. It was the fridge that did us in. I looked into a solar system, just for that, and they told me 10K. WHAT?! I don't want a generator, but with fire season just around the corner, we have to do something.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Suz,
I'm afraid I'm a bit of a troglodyte!
I don't have a battery charger, although I have a reasonable stash of fresh batteries.
There's a gas stove, too, although it has an electric pilot light. But I have matches, as well as a lighter. As to the fridge: Well, I figured out a long time ago that, in the event of a lengthy power outage during cold weather, I could transfer foods from the fridge and freezer into containers and move them outdoors. Also, I've stored up some canned goods.
I'm not worried about the car, since I can't drive at least until I see the surgeon on Thursday.
For light, I have three flashlights and traditional candles if push comes to shove. Heat could be problematic, although I doubt it would come to that. For warmth, I have ski clothes, blankets, and two snuggly cats.
Of course, the predictions could all be inaccurate.

Here's the forecast, according to the Wunderground station around a half-mile from home:

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We have dropped 30* since 0800 here, with 60 mi/hr wind gusts. Cold and inhospitable. Went to church, scant folks there! Can’t blame them! Downed limbs everywhere.

YIKES! This thread is starting to give me hives. The memory of our ordeal is still to fresh. I think I'll hide under the bed until spring.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We FINALLY got some sunshine yesterday. Along with a good strong wind.
Sun will only last until tomorrow morning, then rain again...

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We had a bright sunny day yesterday, with wind gusts past 60 mph. We now have a yard full of tree limbs and branches to pick up and shred for mulch. Today, it is bright and sunny, with no wind, and generally a beautiful day!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
MIGOSH! I think the whole country has wind warnings, today. We have 3 days of it in the forecast, which is really scary because we still have big, loose branches stuck in the tops of big trees. We're also having enough rain to cause flooding in the lower areas. We could lose our power again! AARRGGHH!!!!!
