Kind of like Spring here in Ohio. Last year it was on a Tuesday, this year it was on Thursday.....

I don't understand how people can survive that kind of warmth and high humidity. I've only experienced it twice, that 2 times too many.Cajun Cappy wrote:Didn't quite make it to 90 today but will this week 87 and humid was bad enough

WITH NO AIR CONDITIONING!
(I can't find an emoji bad enough to depict the experience.)

Yes, thanks for asking! Lots of tornadoes all around us, the closest being within about 10 miles, but we sat in the middle of the mess with very little damage. A couple trees topped out, but not too bad. We only lost power for a short time, but they are reporting several million in the state without power.

YIKES! That's scary stuff! We raced one down a highway one time. We didn't know whether to stop, go back, turn off, or keep going. The stupid things are so unpredictable. I guess you're not out of the woods yet, either. What about flooding?OhioGardener wrote:countrynaturals wrote:OG? Tornadoes in Ohio? Are you okay?

Fortunately, we are on high ground and flooding is not an issue for us. But, the creek that runs across the back corner of our property is out of its banks due to the runoff. Areas to the south of us are under flash flood warning. Tonight's weather is supposed to be a repeat of last nights, but I'm hoping it will be a lot quieter! I went out and checked gardens, and everything came through in great condition - even the squash & cucumber plants I put out last evening look great.

Cool and wet day here in Ottawa.
By the way, there are homes within easy walking distance of our house that are still under repair from the terrible damage caused by one of the five tornadoes that hit this city last September.

2 inches of rain here overnight, in the basement for 40 minutes at 11pm last night...tornado season.

I hear you SR! We would have been in the basement if we had one! Four EF3 tornadoes within 20 miles of us, and it was a wild night with lots of lost sleep.

More storms
More storms moving through today but I need the rain. I've been a little tardy getting my straw mulch down and had to water my half barrels yesterday then mulch and water again.
Going to buy a 2 cu.ft bale of shredded straw today and get everything mulched and wait for the scorching summer heat to set in.

Mulching is my project too, but I'm using up my giant pile of aged wood chips, a little at a time. It's already too hot to do it after noon. At my old-lady-rate, it will probably take me all summer and be time to start fall mulching by the time I'm done.MrBooker wrote:More storms moving through today but I need the rain. Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
The scorching summer heat has hit us about a month early. I am watering my barrels once a day and the squash and beans planted in them are still drooping by midday. I have straw mulch down but they are still not making it thru the day.countrynaturals wrote:Mulching is my project too, but I'm using up my giant pile of aged wood chips, a little at a time. The daily thunderstorms continue. Unbelievable how wet this spring has been. Fortunately the raised beds drain well, and the vegetables continue growing. The trail cams set up to watch the gardens for nighttime animals caught a lightning strike that woke the household in the early morning hours.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Last week here in the UK we had a belter of a week lots of warm sun 19 - 22 oC I'd sown my carrots 14 May & set up a micro misting spray over the bed ( do a bed of carrots at a time for a big harvest in one go ) .
Almost every one of the 130 plus points I'd station sowed a couple of seeds at has germinated & now has 3/4" ( 19 mm ) high baby carrot tops showing .... so have the air borne weeds seeds
Today it's done little else other than be cool 15 oC & drizzly with a fresh air movement from the SSW off the Bristol channel .. looking forward to mid week when it forecast to be dryer & warmer .

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
For the second time in less than a year my city (Ottawa, Canada) has been struck by tornadoes. Last year one came within a couple of blocks of our house. This time they were on the other side of this city of one million people.

I didn't know tornadoes went that far north!? I was surprised a few years ago when we had them in Massachusetts!

We grew them in Alaska.

Yep, these varieties are "cold hardy", and do well in the far north with the 24-hour daylight.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
WIND!
It got so bad it almost knocked Hubby off the steps. It blew the door out of my hand and blew stuff off the kitchen counter and across the room.
It also did this to my romaine lettuce. Yesterday, these plants were standing up like little soldiers. It was a combination of the wind actually blowing that hard, and also drying the plants out so much faster than usual. (Also, I didn't notice the $#% spider mites. )
