Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Battening down the hatches this afternoon .. so far 163 storm/flood warnings that may be life threatening last night & tonight all over the UK ..but not in our location .
It seems a " Spring high tide " has been pushed down from the North sea /English channel by the tail end of th wee blow you've had in the states , giving a 20 foot tide that is 12 or more feet above the normal tides all down the east coat of the UK ..similar to the life taking floods of 1953 that over came the sea defences between Hull and Cromer .

Truth!RJARPCGP wrote:yolos wrote:Hot. Highs between 93 and 96 degrees until Saturday,. Then drops down into low 80's of Saturday. Almost no rain for months. My water bill last month was just over $200. But I do have a pool where the water evaporates rapidly in this heat and I have to continually raise the level of the water above the filters.
And even though I'm in the northeast US, the contrast between there and here, seems to be excessive, with southern Vermont and southern New Hampshire looking as if I'm in northeast Vermont! It's possible that in some days, we are going to be like International Falls, Minnesota!

So windy they might turn off our power as a precaution against wildfires. Worst case scenario, it could be out for a week. If I'm not around, that's the probable explanation.

Sounds like you may need a generator.countrynaturals wrote:So windy they might turn off our power as a precaution against wildfires. Worst case scenario, it could be out for a week. If I'm not around, that's the probable explanation.

I was just reading about that. If you have an electric car all you need is an inverter and an extension cord. Hook up the inverter to your 12 volt battery and it should be able to power lots of stuff in your house. I just bought a 1200 watt inverter to hook up to my electric car so I can run the refrigerator or space heater or air conditioner during the power outages that we often have here. Also I think the cigarette lighters in cars can power up to a hundred and fifty Watts, but check me on that.
Drizzly today and we're heading into stormy windy weather here for the next two days. Three to six inches of rain expected and gusts in the 50s. Oh the joy.

Not one left to buy or rent in the whole valley, but our sweet neighbor had an extra, and just came up the hill and hooked it up for us, so -- at least for a little while -- I'M BACK! Time to get caught up.donnainzone5 wrote:21F here this morning, with a tiny smattering of snow on the ground.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Gentle rain will keep me in the house today. We still have another 10 days of great gardening weather, but the short days and cool nights have slowed the pace to a crawl.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We get very little fall color, since most of our trees are oaks, and they just turn brown and drop their leaves. What we lack in beauty however, we make up for in plentiful mulch.Scorpio Rising wrote:Sunny classic fall day here in the Great Lakes! Trees starting to color!
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We finally had 1 day of fall the sun was out humidity low and temp in the 70-'s I went out weeded our 4x12 box found a red ant pile in it hadda poison and wait a hour then finished weeding. Then I added some 13-13-13 and covered that with some garden soil got that all raked smooth went to buy some plants got home late and Now it is raining. As in all day raining. Hopefully we will get an other taste of fall and I can plant our fall garden tomorrow. Several friends did this a couple weeks ago only to have their plants burn up in the 90 + degree heat. When I finally get it all planted I will post a picture heavy blog post about it and share it with yall as we begin gardening and playing in the yard again. Till then I'll just watch it rain

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
We also get very little color. If the front passes we may get a taste of fall which for us is cool dry air we cant wait. I have cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, sitting on the patio table they will go in hopefully tomorrow into a well watered bed
Finally, some rain in The Big Easy!
Sunday brought us beautiful, bluebird skies and a warm, but not uncomfortable day. Spent the day planting my garlic, onions, cauliflower, celery, and more lettuce while watching the Hard Rock Hotel crane implosion countdown on the outdoor TV. The blast shook us pretty good even though we are 4 miles out as the crow flies.
Today was crazy rainy. I am so thankful or the much-needed free water for my plants. We are now poised to get another front. Not cold, but cool. I'll take it!

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Cajun Cappy, my old home, stomping grounds are in St. James Parish! Enjoy your planting tomorrow! My plants seem to be fairly happy after a full day of rain today.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Yay! first genuine sunny day of fall. We got our 4x12 and 2 of our 4xt6 beds planted and watered and I built my first fire in my ole fire pit. We are so very excited to report our first play in the yard day!
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
OMG! We still have another 10 days of almost perfect gardening weather. That takes us all the way into November. YEE-HAH! life is good!
Nature balances things out, however. You zone 5 and 6ers still get the best of it cuz your July and August days, when our gardens are dormant and yours are at their peak, are almost twice as long as our late season gardening days. That means everything takes almost twice as long to mature now, so we still can't match your total output, but I am definitely not complaining.

Going down to 33* F here by Wednesday night. When I woke up yesterday morning, It was spring time.
I woke up this morning, it's winter already. With all of this cool weather, my cabbage is starting to
crack open. BUT: my turnips and brussel sprouts are looking great.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
PG&E is threatening more shutoffs this weekend. We're included again. We'll have to borrow the generator from the neighbors again, because there isn't a single Honda left in Redding, and we need a generator that's quiet. We should be able to get one in the next few weeks, however.
