Re: Update on Marie's mom
Took a quick trip to W TN to see hubby's aunt (in hospice care) last weekend. Got back Monday evening, was home 2 hours, then got a call from mom saying she was bleeding & it wasn't stopping. So she was headed to the er.
Got her out after 2 am. The doc thinks it's her blood thinner. And they did get it stopped. Now the heart doc is saying that she should let the bladder & gyn docs make the decision on what blood thinner she should be on. And her surgery's STILL not scheduled due to covid... Sigh....
At least she's back home & I got to see her for a few hours. Spirits are high. A couple of her social groups has quit meeting for a while, but others are still going, so she's getting the interaction she needs.

It's always something! I'm still on blood thinners too, but I think they're gonna take me off, soon. Glad she's doing better and got to come home.AtlantaMarie wrote:Took a quick trip to W TN to see hubby's aunt (in hospice care) last weekend. It’s like walking a tightrope on those blood thinners, really. Glad everything got under control fairly quickly!

Re: Update on Marie's mom
I have a test kit that I use one day per week to test how thick/thin my blood is. I call in the test results and if it is out of a set range, the doctors nurses will call me and tell me how to adjust my intake of blood thinner medicine.

Re: Update on Marie's mom
Talked to her yesterday. She STILL hasn't heard from the bladder/gyn guys... But the cardio guy ended up putting her back on the blood thinner.
One interesting side note... She decided to stop taking gabapentin. She didn't think it was helping anyway. (She weaned herself off.) The swelling in her ankles disappeared.
So if you're on gabapentin & your ankles swell (esp. the left one for some reason), that might be the reason!

Thanks for the interesting observation about Gabapentin. I also found that it didn't help much.
Re: Update on Marie's mom
And for me it does... At least with the nerve damage from that bout of shingles I had in March. I don't take it, those nerves start going crazy! ???

Re: Update on Marie's mom
Mom just called. We FINALLY have a date on what will hopefully be her last surgery - November 17.
We'll be meeting with the heart docs on the 12th & hopefully get her final release from them too.
Y.I.P.E.E...!!

Re: Update on Marie's mom
Surgery went well yesterday. The bladder doctor said it's the worst collapse he's seen in 300+ surgeries. She may have to get another (fairly minor - just mild sedation) procedure, but he wants to wait a bit to see how her body responds to yesterday's work.
Thank you for all your kind wishes & good thoughts!
Hopefully we'll get her home today.

Re: Update on Marie's mom
She's home & already saw a huge difference last night. She managed to stay in bed from 9 to about 5:45 am! Usually she's up 3-4 times....
Happy sigh....

Re: Update on Marie's mom
Well, she's back to getting up every couple of hours. But still not as bad as it was.
Saw the doctor yesterday. Said that's to be expected & that he's very pleased. Wants to see her in 3 months.
Yippppppeeeeee!!! She's happy. I'm relieved.

When a doctor tells you, "I will see you in three months" that is great news. ![Smile](https://2img.net/i/fa/i/smiles/icon_smile.gif)
