Winter Squash Arch
One of the successes this summer(so far) has been a winter squash arch made with cattle panels. The squash are growing in a 4x8x3 metal raised bed where I had made a compost pile last fall. There is a hog panel making another tunnel on the far end. I have Butternut, Lakota, Austalian Butter Pumpkin, and Buttercup squash growing. The bed is tall enough and only half full so it was very easy to make a mini greenhouse for this spring. My worry is a hail storm, hopefully the house will give some protection. It is making a nice cool play area for my grandkids.

Re: Winter Squash Arch
So if i get this right, you built this for compost creation? or growth of small squash?

I built the bed for growing vegetables in. Because it is so deep and I only partially filled it I used it as a compost pile last fall. My intention was to spread that compost to all the beds but it was not composted enough. I gave it a good stir as soon as it thawed this spring and it heated up but still was not ready for most vegetables. Squash love compost piles and so were happy. I am contemplating digging it out come Fall, spreading the compost, and refilling it to do the same trick again.

Don't look up!
Seems like your garden might be a bit of a hard-hat zone.

Re: Winter Squash Arch
I have one consisting of 3 cattle panels wired end to end that I use for cucumbers and pole beans. 6' wide inside with a 1' by 12' box on each side. Am thinking about killing the grass inside the tunnel and putting down wood chips. Very convenient and productive but not square foot bed.
Never thought that you could grow winter squash that way so I guess I need another one. Plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to construct one. I cut the fence post in half to make it a little nicer looking.
