Monthly Avatar Theme June 2013: What I Look Forward to Growing Most
June? Uh where'd May go? Good grief I'm not ready for June yet. Our weather still says it's early May, and I'm still liking my cowbell
Anyway, What are you looking forward to growing the most in your 2013 garden? I've got a bunch of new things I'm trying this year, including Aunt Molly's Ground Cherries. I've eaten plenty of tomatillos, but never in my life have I had a ground cherry, much less grown one. Will they live up to my expectations? Guess time will tell
What are you looking forward to growing and trying the most this year?

Corn for lunch, and corn for supper, for weeks on end.
Eaten raw, hot or inbetween.
How fresh should corn be?
First you put on the pot of water to boil; then you go pick the corn.
2 minutes max in boiling water to get it hot. Fresh corn doesn't need to be 'cooked'.

My first choice is my Brandywine tomatoes. I've never had one, but after all the rave reviews on here last year, we put one in
Then the giant pumpkins
Then a variety of sunflowers:
and finally, some Silverqueen corn! Gonna plant it this am. The beds are all prepped, and my squares are marked and ready to go!! In the background, you can see some KandyKane corn, and some Peaches and Cream already up. Under the KandyKane are 3 varieties of beans ready to climb up the corn

Great theme! Mine's a simple one: cucumbers. Supposed to be very prolific and I hope it's true - I eat about half a one a day.

Just some simple home grown, organic, vine ripened tomatoes would thrill me.

Black Krim Tomatoes!!
This month's avatar theme is great. Well, my family and I are hoping, hoping, for some beautiful, juicy black krim tomatoes. I have about 16 plants and they are all doing well (so far). --My avatar came from Google images... not from anything I've actually grown.--
I would love for my family to enjoy a fresh, summer caprese salad with hand made mozzarella and fresh basil (from our herb garden). Sigh... we'll see what happens.

Last year I tried unsuccessfully to grow Cherokee purple tomatoes. This year I have two plants that are loaded. I am looking forward to getting the taste...........

I've got my fingers crossed that my little 'Red Bull' Brussels Sprouts seedling will yield some of these come Fall:

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme June 2013: What I Look Forward to Growing Most
I'm hoping to see some White Wonder cucumbers this year:
But the only one that has sprouted so far has died.
And since I have problems just growing a regular cucumber , I'd even be happy with a green one. Wish me luck.

Mine is not my son who is in the fore front of this photo but the little pumpkins. The year this was taken we have just 2 dwarf pumpkins plants this year we have 5. My son is sooo excited that he goes to the garden to check his pumpkin plants daily if not twice a day weather and mom permitting.

Punkins!
My daughter (3yo) and I were very excited to find that our pumpkin vines are flowering already. They're all boyflowers, but there are a few tiny baby pumpkin blossoms on there that we hope will open someday. Last year we never got any fruit from our pumpkin vine, so she and I are very hopeful that we'll have some this year.
She had a whole story for me about how we'll grow our own pumpkins to carve faces on for Halloween this year. ...and, of course, that she'll be a princess.

Try hand pollinating a few of the female flowers so that you will at least get one or two. I did that for my son the first year we grew them because he was so hopeful that he would get a pumpkin. He was two at the time. And I just couldn't let him be disappointed . We ended up getting 19 small jack be little pumpkin as my avatar show, good luck with your pumpkins!!!

Thanks! We do hit the garden every morning with our q-tips in hand, just in case any flowers are open. The problem last year was that we never had any female blossoms on the pumpkin.
This year, though, everything is growing much better, and it looks like we'll be in good shape unless we run into some unforeseen pumpkin pest when the fruit starts growing!
