Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
Llama, I'm taking your suggestion. Monthly avatar theme for May, Anything Goes!
Reminds me of our weather
Mine is one of my fresh water planted tanks. All live plants, fresh water style
Edit*
Thank you windmere. Here are early stages of the tank:

Wow Rooster! That is a gorgeous aquarium. Outside of the glossy photographs of an expensive aquarium book, I have never seen a more beautiful and lushly planted aquarium. You have an aquatic green thumb as well!
Alas, we have a ten gallon aquarium with a single goldfish that has gotten enormous over time. Since we add salt to his water (to prevent fungal infections... which he did have at one time)... we cannot put in fresh plants for him. We have plastic plants on which algae has grown.
Your tank looks huge!

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
Wow! Nice tanks! I had tanks in another life but got too sad when a fish died.
Anything goes is really had for me. I have so many photos I don't know where to start. So I think I'll use my hydrangea for now.
This is it's natural color as the Cape's soil is so acid which apparently encourages the uptake of aluminum. Pink hydrangea are rare here and I love seeing them. When I planted a pink one a few years ago it was fun to see multi colored blooms the following year. Now it's just blue.

Not sure if my avatar qualifies since I added it last month but it definitely falls under the anything goes category. This is my toad abode that I made out of clay, had it fired and then hand painted it. Unfortunately there is still a vacancy but hopefully someday I will get a resident toad.

Please don't kill me... but....
H_TX_2, please don't get too mad at me...
I know this is like the third or fourth time of me asking...
But that mixture you make with orange rind and hot pepper powder, etc...
I thought I had book marked your post, but I did not. I am so sorry.
Could you please tell me what goes in it again... I promise I'll actually write it down this time. I need a list to take to the farmer's market for spices.
Thanks very, very, much.

Anything Goes Rooster? Here is a little Spring color from the front flower bed.. please pretend purple dead nettle weeds were pulled..
Rooster, your aquarium plants are so gorgeous, great job, when you make water changes do suppose the garden plants would love that fish fertilized water?? Just wondering.
Htx2 your toad abode is very cool! I like it very much

If your avatar were soil cubes by proportion that would make your tomatoes as big as what, coconut trees??

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
So what are the rules on avatars? Does it have to be something in your garden? On your property? Or can you use a picture from anywhere (that you took or have permission to use)?
And how to do you insert them? Through your profile page?
Thanks!

Bob - I love the gorgeous color of azaleas but never tried to grow them because of the acidity. I have holly bushes and struggle to keep them alive, even adding the hollytone acidity stuff I just can't seem to have healthy ones.
I know Rooster and camprn, I'm off topic :nono: once again.. and I know- :read the rules !

The Nanking cherry decided this morning was the moment to start blooming. Naturally there is a winter storm warning for later today so these blossoms may only last this morning. Best to commemorate them while I can.

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
Rooster- Nice fish tank! Your aqua plants look great. I kept fish until we bought our house. I started a low tech tank with a T5 light and my plants went nuts. I couldnt keep up on them with so much else going on, so gave the tank to my mom.
Beautiful flowers everyone. I had some beautiful tulips that my daughter beheaded. My 3 lilac bushes, the crab apple, and cherry tree are blooming. I love spring!
I made my avatar this guy...my dog found him while we were watering the plants. A brown snake.

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
So in honor of my husky, Bluebell, who is in North Carolina right now with my mate (helping him train his new border collie puppy), I'm using her as my first avatar picture. Isn't she beautiful?
This is the one I'm using...
Here are a couple more. That is her little "brother" Frank.
(you can see her mind working here, foreshadowing what's to come in the next shot)
hahaha She has his whole head in her mouth. Don't worry, she's not hurting him. That is totally a husky thing. They all do that. They're very "mouthy" dogs. But she doesn't bite.
Last but not least, who couldn't love that face?
(and see, Frank is chewing on her ear.)
