Wyoming gardener wanting to learn new skills
Hello to all! I live in Casper WY and have grown gardens in several locations around town. I have a great garden site I have used for years but find I can't do all the bending and twisting around in it anymore. I'm hoping sfg will allow me to continue gardening! I will be checking out the regional sites for contact with other high desert growers. I hope to learn alot of new skills here!

Perhaps Table Top (TT) gardening would help - where you put a bottom on your regular Square Foot Garden (SFG) and add legs to a comfortable height.
Or maybe making deep beds (about 18") with "fill" dirt below, weed cloth and then Mel's Mix (MM) for the top 6" and wide ledges that you can sit on.

Thanks for the welcome camprn! I hope to learn a lot about this type of gardening here.
Barbara, I like your idea of building up the sfg to 18", especially for my low growing plants. I may could still have shorter ones for the tall growers. Hmmm. Will have to think about this more. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum if I haven't already said so. Casper? Wow, I bet your growing season is fairly short?
If you choose to build things up 18 inches, don't do it with Mel's Mix the whole 18 inches. That will get crazy expensive. I would use just about anything for 9 to 12 inches and make MM for the top 6-9 inches.

Glad to be here! Yes, growing season here is short but there are still many veggies I can grow and harvest before the first bad snow or frost. I've been experimenting with different veggies and have had some good and bad results. Part of the experience I guess.

Evelyn, so glad you joined us. Have you read ALL NEW SQUARE FOOT GARDENING YET? It certainly is a great method to produce great veggies and avoid many weeds. The uncontrollable weeds in earlier gardens were really what converted me to SFG. I also use Table Tops which puts the plants up "in my face" so to speak, and makes it easier for me to nurture and harvest my crops.
