There are people that want to take in stray animals or people down on their luck. I feel this need to take in people who don't have a garden, LOL! My sons 11 year old friend came over today and just sat and watched me garden. Finally he told me how much he wanted a garden but dad won't let him under any circumstances because he does not want to mow around one (Dad is a little controlling). I seriously wanted to cry and debated building him a raised bed at my house. Is there a name for that need in me?????? I honestly think next year I am going to give him his own 4x4 bed since we have the space.

There's nothing to lose on setting him up one at your house. He will either tend to it and learn so much, then pass info on to his father, or if he abandons it, you still have a garden for your own use. I say "go for it". My grandsons (2 and 10) love their garden time and pass info on to their other grandparents. I'm betting they will have one by next year as well.
