Re: login issues
Really weird. I still have to login, but, I looked at this thread before I logged in, and it showed that I was online, so the forum knew who I was(I guess this is with the cookies?)

Re: login issues
I have had to login occasionally in the past and I just assumed that it was a regular occurance so as to keep unwanted people from accessing the forum? My only trouble was remembering my password.

Add me to the list of people having trouble logging in.
I have seen women looking at jewelry ads with a misty eye and one hand resting on the heart, and I only know what they're feeling because that's how I read the seed catalogs in January - Barbara Kingsolver - Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

Do you mean actual trouble logging in or that you just have to log in? I have no trouble, just use name and password and I am in.
Re: login issues
There's nary a peep on forumotion about log-in problems this time.
The first advice they always give is this:
1. Use the link at the bottom right of the International category to clear forum cookies. It's called "Delete the forum cookies"
2. Clear your browser's cache.
Now what happens?
I have two computers and four browsers, and it seems like all combinations handle log-in differently, and I haven't figured out why.
Usually, if I don't log out, but just close the SFG tab, I'm recognized the next time I arrive here.

Re: login issues
boffer,
I did the 'delete the cookies' on here and on my computer. Seems to have worked.
I had to log in before I could 'delete the cookies'
Thanks, Jo

the "log in with facebook" button isn't highlighted for log in. Anyone else having this problem? Pain in the neck to use the password etc, at least for me ;/

Re: login issues
I gave up on the auto log in long ago... I actually have to click the button that says log in. It works every time... so far any way,

Facebook log-in glitch
Wow, I've been trying to figure out how to get back in to the forum for months now! Been packing up our home for a pending relocation and haven't really had time to deal with log-in issues, but did post a note on Sally Mae's forum on Facebook and she sent me to Cheri. The Facebook log-in button wasn't working and I couldn't log-in the regular way. Scoured the Help forum and noticed that it's an ongoing issue, but they said it was an admin coding problem.
I've been (mostly!) unplugged for a couple of weeks to finish the packing and finally found my June newsletter tucked in the SFG folder with our project photos from the Sowing Seeds of Love & Appreciation page on FB. Awesome :-)
Reminded me to pop back over and try again, but still no luck and no word from Cheri on a fix. The search just prompted me to log-in, so I surfed back over to the Help forum and someone suggested resetting the password. That didn't work for me last year when I couldn't log-in to my original account, which is why I ended up creating a new one through the FB log-in.
Nevertheless, I decided to plug in my username and FB email address to see what would happen and voila! I am back in again!! Thank goodness, because I really did not want to create a third account ~ Whew! Glad to be back in time to connect with some fellow Carolinian SFG'ers to find a garden-friendly neighborhood now that the house-hunting has commenced!

Re: login issues
I have no idea who Sally or Cheri are but typically login problems are not that common yet they do happen from time to time. Glad you are back on the SFG Forum and good luck with your move.luckypenne wrote:Wow, I've been trying to figure out how to get back in to the forum for months now! Newsletter & Tech Advisors
Thanks for the welcome back, my friend! Cheri McKay and Sally Mae Hansley put together the SFG newsletter each month, and Cheri takes care of tech issues (or passes them on to Alan Silva, who created our original SFG forum.)
Re: login issues
Oh, thanks for clarification. It's nice to know you have friends at the SFG Foundation. The Forum has very little to do with the Foundation, aside from promoting the method of gardening. This would explain why those of here had no idea to whom you were referring.

Cheri and Sally have nothing to do with the forum. Alan stops by maybe every 6 months or so and really has nothing to do with the forum either.

Re: login issues
Thanks, y'all ~ if not Cheri or Alan, who's in charge of forum technical issues? I can see now that I'm not the only one who has experienced log-in issues here (albeit an old thread, which I wouldn't have known had not boffer pointed out the date preference in my settings, which excluded the year.) I was stuck outside of the loop without access to the forum, so that's why I sent my request to HQ.
Although I was a member of the original SFG forum that Alan set up years ago and followed him over here, my new registration stopped working suddenly last year and would not accept my email address (or any others I tried) to reset my password. The account seems to have disappeared completely.
I finally ended up registering a new account with the Facebook log-in, then it unexpectedly became inaccessible this spring. I've been so busy getting our home ready for market and the upcoming transfer that I didn't have time to fool with it, and Cheri@SFG didn't respond to my messages. I would have expected her to forward my request to Alan or whoever is taking care of the forum now.
Jo, either the Raleigh area near the Shearon Harris nuclear plant or Charlotte near the McGuire plant (SC or NC side.) I see you're quite a bit far south from McGuire. Thanks for asking!

I don't have any issues on my phone. My home computer the 'auto login' has never worked; I caulked it up to security settings.

Re: login issues
Thanks RoOsTeR ~ I'm not sure why Cheri didn't forward the messages to you as Admin, but since I couldn't log-in, there was no other way to contact you here to report the issue.
Pepper, I've read a lot about the Facebook auto-login glitch on the "creatingforum" help boards. It worked fine for me for months, then suddenly gave up this spring and I didn't think I could get back in with the manual log-in since they said it was a coding issue that had to be fixed by the admin or person who installed the forum (Alan?) I went back to the help boards this week and someone suggested clicking the reset password link. I was able to use the newly generated password and my username to log-in ~ Yay!

There's a contact button at the bottom of the index page. 9 times out of 10, log in issues are user error. Typically, not entering their password correctly or forgetting it altogether. Had you used the contact button, like most do, I probably could have had you logged in in a matter of minutes.
I'm not a fan of any auto log in, be it google, facebook, twitter, etc.
