Spacing Issues..
Since the format switched, I seem to be composing normally. However, everything is double or triple spacing.
I'm a computer newb (or technologically illiterate, whichever you prefer). Is it a setting I can control? It's not a big deal either way. Just figured I'm not the only one.

Re: Spacing Issues..
You are not the only one. It must be a formatting issue with the forum.
I have adjusted by not putting a space between paragraphs. Hard to remember to do that though.

Not sure what you mean. The forum got a paint job and a few new pictures hung on the homepage. No formatting involved. On post pages, colors are about the only thing we have any control over.
I hit 'enter' once to start this paragraph; does the spacing look normal to you?
Re: Spacing Issues..
Trying it in IE.
"Whoomp, There It Is. Whoomp, There It is."
Why wouldn't it be messed up in IE? Of course it doesn't work in IE, why would it? Nothing else does. All right, I'll look around, but I don't have a clue. Insert expletives here. Microsoft has wasted millions of man hours because they drag their feet about keeping up with changing internet standards, and we're not using anything cutting edge on the forum.

Re: Spacing Issues..
It happens to me all the time as well...but it was happening to me long before the new skin on the forum. I think its browsers and the differences between them.
But even then it isn't consistent, cause boff and I use FF and he never has the spacing and format issues I have.

Yeah probably, and when I post I usually edit about 10 times trying to make it look like I have a little more intelligence than a slug.

Re: Spacing Issues..
I noticed it also when the forum was changed. I thought I was causing it to happen!
Good to hear it is doing it to everyone.

Re: Spacing Issues..
In IE, it's doing the extra space thing when I'm in WYSIWYG mode, but not in code mode. Can somebody duplicate that? That's something definitive that I can take to forumotion.
When the A/A button is pinkish, you are in WYSIWYG mode. I can't get it to act up in FF.

Re: Spacing Issues..
I noticed the extra spacing between paragraphs because I automatically put a line space between paragraphs, instead I now do not put that space in.
Now I have turned that A into a pink square to see if this works as I have not put a line space in this message.
Redone this and turned the pink square white. (Not really sure what I am doing at this time of night).
This test has me all confused now, I had better go to bed.

Re: Spacing Issues..
Hi Boff! I just tried to replicate the issue for you in IE 8 and created a Jing as I was typing below:
I am typing currently in "white" mode (nonWYSIWYG)
I am still typing in "white" mode
I am still typing in "white" mode
I have changed this to "pink" mode (WYSIWYG)
I am now still in "pink" mode
I am still in "pink" mode
When I go from "pink" back to white, the "pink" mode typing, is what seems to gain the extra space. This was typed in "white" mode.
I am now in "pink" mode again...
It appears to simply add the extra spaces to what I've typed in "pink" mode, IF I deselect the "pink" and change to "white".
Below is a Jing link so you can see...
http://screencast.com/t/EMfuVhCrAoX
PS - when I previewed just now in "pink" mode, it added yet another space to anything I'd typed in "pink' mode- so there may also be a problem with typing in "pink" mode and then going to preview in pink mode (that was how I got THREE spaces in places in this post).
Interestingly enough, the editor doesn't show the spaces that are showing in the preview which were added by this method.

I always type in 'pink' mode...and I always preview...and it always does this to me...I wonder if that is the connection.

Re: Spacing Issues..
Good Morning!
I just saw this thread and have a question
What/how 'pink' and 'white' mode?
I am using IE and am just curious.
Jo
When I hit preview (Mode?) spaces were added to each line and I took them out.

Re: Spacing Issues..
Pink is WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzie wig)
What You See Is What You Get
This is red. This is bold. This is Georgia font.
This is a screenshot of the the above line in WYSIWYG mode

When the button is white, you're in code mode, and it looks like this:

By design, forums only use very basic text editing tags in their post edit boxes, so it's hard to see the advantages of WYSIWYG. I find it cumbersome at times and don't use it at all.
But, if you wanted to make a web page or social networking page of some sort, that had drag and drop capabilities, WYSIWYG becomes a lot of fun as you add, position, and re-size content on your page.

Re: Spacing Issues..
So far over my head, technically, it's not even funny. Glad a few of you know what the heck to do to help Boffer and Jennie out. Can you say, "SOOO not my forte!"
FWIW, I have always used IE in this forum. I used to use FF years ago, but not in the past two. The "change" coincided directly with the skin change earlier this summer here. It doesn't do this on other forums, or in emails...definitely an SFG thing.
But, that said, I still want to say it isn't that big a deal....to me. I was just curious since I noticed when it started and also noticed it hadn't been addressed by the techies....figuring it slipped through cracks.
(We should give the IT guys around here a pay raise!)

Re: Spacing Issues..
After a good night's sleep, I'm gonna stick to gardening.
Now I will have to type another line to see what is happening as I am in pink mode and I typed this message using no spacing between lines.

Re: Spacing Issues..
I was too tired to pursue it very far last night, but I found a couple complaints on forumotion dating back to February. It's not a sfg problem, it's a forumotion problem. Forumotion is the company that hosts the forum. I'm going there now. If I'm not back by lunchtime, send out the dogs.
Re: Spacing Issues..
I should've got out of bed last night to go look. It's their problem. Now we wait.
Re: Spacing Issues..
Thanks for explaining the pink and white. I do think that we can overlook the extra spacing.
I think I'll just stick to gardening, I enjoy that more, and there are no 'blank' spaces in the garden.

All one needs to do at the moment is not put a line space between paragrahs. Hard to do without thinking.littlejo wrote:Thanks for explaining the pink and white. I do think that we can overlook the extra spacing.

With regard to blank spaces in the garden, I do have some but I am waiting for the right time to put in my shallots and garlic etc. I hope I don't miss it.

Everyone needs to understand that there is no way I would have lasted this long as Admin without Boffer...He is like the man behind the curtain...seriously...I am just the curtain.
We keep him around cause we LOVE HIM and if he left I would have to as well cause I wouldn't have a clue what i was doing on this technically.
Everything I have learned has been from him about the way a forum works and functions.
Thank you Boffer for doing a thankless job! I appreciate you so much!
