Who do you think will have the longest carrot?
LONGEST CARROT TIME!
The date has been set, it's all going down on Saturday August 20th, 2011, right here on the SFG Forum!
It's been an ongoing competition between Josh and boffer as to who will grow the longest carrot from a giant 2x4 variety, grown in Mel's Mix in special SFG's to allow for the extra long length of the giant carrots.
Mark your calenders, you DON'T want to miss this SFG Giant carrot event! Josh and boffer will be posting the size and picture of their carrot. If you haven't been following the smackdown trash talk all summer, you can catch up on backstory here.
Tell us who you think will have the longest carrot. Will it be Josh the young Jr. Master Gardener, or will it be boffer, the most ignorant fifth year gardener on the forum?

Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
It seems guys are always compairing the size of their carrots. My two gardening neighbors (both guys) were on about the size of their cucumbers this summer. What is it with men and the size of their veggies?
Seriously though good luck to you both. I can't wait to see who wins. I would have voted for both of you if I could have.

Boffer, I love you, man, but I think this was over before it started.
Josh, you sure know how to sell an event. Don King has nothing on you right now.....except his grammar. His spoken english is top notch....lol.
Good luck, guys. This has been a pleasure to watch.

Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
Josh is off to a fast start. Judging from his avatar picture, would it be fair to call him the Hair?

WAIT a minute...I didn't say that about boffer...(I was thinking it maybe)Boffer was going to help me with making it so everyone can vote and check over my spelling and grammar, but he changed what I said ...I originally had down that boffer was a gardener with MANY years experience. Boffer's trying to get sympathy votes I think!

And another low blow about my hair??? What's under your cap Boffer?

Now I know how those politicians feel....

When does the poll close... I'm still

43 years a gardener and going strong with SFG.

Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
Sorry I'm slow to get back to you
I had to stop and help a friend.
We're pulling carrots Saturday, so I guess the poll should close Friday night.
Now then, down to business. You're right, Kay, I don't need to carry a comb in my pocket anymore! For those of you who are feeling a bit guilty for thinking about voting for Josh because of his "aw shucks, golly gee, aren't I cute" good looking charm that sucks you in
here's the cold hard facts to help with your decision making:
Growing Degree Days to date:
Josh 2943
boffer 839
If you only know that bigger is better...there ya go!

That's what he wrote, but it's just not the case. Only five years. My sales pitch is: "I don't have to know anything about gardening because I SFG. I stick stuff in Mel's Mix, and it grows."josh was trying to cover his butt again when he wrote: ...I originally had down that boffer was a gardener with MANY years experience...

You mean it's not? Gee, and all this time I let Cosmo, car commercials, and beer ads run my life for me.

Boffer those figures....you know you alter your SFGs with plastic tents to warm them up..and no telling what all you do...maybe even a heater under there...still trying to get sympathy votes...
All those numbers ....

Now about the cutie stuff....
Me 5 years ago when I first started SFGing...my very first SFG

And here it is after it was growing...and look in the basket...my very first carrot....

Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
I think the refference to Jeff Dunham's crew is the most accurate thing except for the actual carrot seeds in this face off. It's like Peanut & Walter in the garden. I'm not voting on this one, I'll wait on the results.
Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
I don't really know, but I'm looking forward to seeing the actual carrots!
Now that I'm set up, I'm also looking forward to planting my own next year!

Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
And judging from the carrot in your basket, the size of the green top is not related to the size of the carrot. So much for the big hands and feet theory. Shucks. My greens are limp and falling over so they are hard to straighten in order to measure, but some of them have to be at least 2½ feet tall.
You're ahead right now in the polling, but don't forget that I told some of my peeps to hold off voting until the last minute!

It sure was genes! That cabbage was a good looking cabbage too, notice there isn't a single bug bite on the leaves, It was perfect!genes wrote:Oh my goodness, young man, are those the cabbage leaves under which you were born? Fabulous.

I had my mom vote for me, my dad forgot his sign in cause he's not a computer person, so I'm really surprised I have so many votes!!!! The way I look at it is, if your peeps hold off to the last minute, it gives me more time to convince them to vote for me, since you won't know how they vote anyway..

Let me show you some of my past carrots, some are really unique, then you might want to consider voting for me....
There was last years totally twisted carrot...

I have more unique carrots to show!

That's hilarious (and possibly worth my vote!). On the top pic I was thinking about the need to thin, however, the Ballet dancers with benefits analogy is awesome.

Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
I can tell you've been planning this for a long time, but I've got to resort to the internet for content! So Rod gave me the idea of googling 'sexy carrot pictures', but I think I better not go there. However, this British carrot advertising campaign did show up.
One spot features an attractive woman playing sexily with carrots in a spoof of an ice-cream ad.
A second spot features an "extreme impossible stunt" as a guy in a jet-propelled grocery trolley flies off the face of a cliff as he is shot at by a woman firing a heavy machine, which spits carrots.
Big question is will it make carrots sexy or cool to kids?
The campaign is for a collection of carrot farmers, according to the campaign's website Babycarrots.com.
The site said: "Our mission: To get folks to eat more carrots. Then get their friends to eat more carrots. Then get their friends' friends to eat more carrots.
"And so on and so forth, until carrots are the official favourite food of everyone, everywhere."
Re: LONGEST CARROT TIME!
Nice machine gun!
I thought I would give a last shot at getting a vote
This is how last years giant carrot measured up, it was 9 1/2 inches long (I think) but I broke that long skinny root off of it when I pulled it up, and Boffer and I talked about the long skinny root should be measured also because that is how they measure the world record carrot.

Now here is a sneak peak of this years giant carrots. I got the quarter out to compare them by.

So I do have some that look pretty good size, but I must admit, I am a little nervous about what boffer has
Be sure to vote, and be sure to check back tomorrow and see who the winner of the longest carrot is.
THANKS to all who voted for me!
