same for me, all mine were as expected. i save seed year to year as well so if there is cross-pollination going on, it is not having any effect.
Re: 2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?!
I wonder if a trelis full of vines in between hot and sweet would help, just a thought.
We have
Tequilla Sunrise (my fav)
Orange Bell
Yellow Bell
Golden Marconi
Some fancy bells I cannot remember
Sweet Banana
Hot
Black Hungarian
Tam Jalepeno
Tabasco
Aneheim

This is the first year for gardening for me, so excuse my ignorance, but do peppers need support like staking or cages? If so what does everyone use?

Re: 2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?!
For extra support on the bigger bell varieties, just stake it to a piece of wood or bamboo or if you really want you can try a trellis. I would just tie it up to some wood or use a cage but they are pretty strong suckers. The smaller, hot varieties will not get too tall at all so they probably won't need much support. The peppers will grow little trunks over time too like a tree, so that leads me to believe they can be pretty sturdy on their own....

Re: 2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?!
I couldn't make up my mind on what varieties, so I ordered Guneys 'Hot Pepper Mix' and their 'Sweet Bell mix'. I have twenty mystery seedlings that could potentially turn out to be:
Red, yellow, purple and gold bells, Jalapeno, Serrano, Hungarian Hot Wax, Anaheim, Cayenne.
I have a feeling that I'm going to wind up with way more peppers than I could ever use.

Here in the land of fog, rain and cool temperatures,(avg mid 60's to mid 70's in high summer) the Extension Service says don't even bother to grow peppers.
Every once in a while we actually have a warm summer here. I think the last one was 2004. Sooooooooooo, I might get lucky and here is what I am trying this year.
I really thought I had 10 varieties started from seed, but this is all that is on my spread sheet. I guess I should go back to my seedling station and see what I acutally have. Seedlings, Seedlings everywhere, but well labeled.

I just hope I can end up with enough for a big pot of Green Pork Chili and a couple of jars of pickled peppers. The Cats Other Mother wrote:I have a feeling that I'm going to wind up with way more peppers than I could ever use.

I should send you a package of Czech Black peppers (Uprising Seed). Last year the only Tomatoes that I was able to pick red were Siltz....as you well know it was an exceptionally chilly summer BUT I got a nice harvest of black jalapeno type peppers from this plant. I'm putting in 5 of them this year. Gypsy didn't give me but one pepper out of the same garden. However I did just read that they turn red when they are fully ripe. I did not see any of those last year. Not real hot but you can tell they have jalapenos in the woodpile (so to speak).
This was August 15 and was probably the biggest pepper that day. I think I got just under a dozen from this plant. We went on vacation a couple of days later and came back to a heavily loaded, very pretty pepper plant.

Probably not the thing to say in here but in the past I have always put smaller tomato cages around my peppers just for the mechanical protection from me walking around nocking branches and peppers off the plants. I grow a bunch of kids but particularly love Trinidad Perfume a small yellow variety that sounds like a hot one but has NO heat. It is a long season 80-90 day variety. It is absolutely awesome in salads and stir fry with a unique flavor like no other I have tried. A picture and seeds can be found at http://www.tomatogrowers.com/cgi-bin/search.pl

I'm doing 3 kinds of sweet peppers this year - Flavorburst, Giant Marconi, and Bananarama. They're all in the same box - this is the first I've heard that it can affect flavor. Hopefully it won't have any effect - guess we'll see.

Re: 2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?!
I am growing orange bell, green bell, TAM Jalepeno and sweet banana. The bell peppers and jalepeno finally appear to be making some kind of progress. The sweet banana look exactly the same as when I planted them. I really don't care for bell pepper but I wanted to try to grow it. I like to cook with hot peppers and eat banana peppers so I hope those work out. I plan to do more hot peppers later.

cayenne, jalepeno and golden habenero. I was at a shop yesterday and the guy was showing me an indoor gardening set up with a chocolate habenero growing in it. I told him I had started goldens, he offered to trade seeds with me. So it looks like I may try a chocolate habenero as well.
and a variety of colors of bells.

Camprn,
I LOVE pablanos! They are probably one of my favorites. Unfortunately, I'm not growing them this year. I couldn't find a local source for the seeds.
I was really trying to buy locally, but this is not working out for me. Next year I'm going to hit the seed catalogs for sure...

Re: 2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?!
Lavender Debs sent me some Czech Black seeds, a jalepeno type with deep purple fruit, and I now have 8 little seedlings popping up in my vermiculite.
I have hope for peppers this summer.

Re: 2011 Peppers! Wha'cha growin'?!
Well, I'm a little scared to post in this thread as when the tomato one started out I was only planning to grow 2 plants of tomatoes. I now have 6 kinds growing and ready for transplant in a couple of weeks.
Right now I'm just planning to grow 1 plant of Mirasol as I got some free seeds from Wintersown and I figured, why not and 1 jalapeno plant. But after reading this thread, I'm sure that will mutliply just like the tomatoes....
