Planted Blauwschokkers
Howdy Folks:
I just had to put some seeds into the ground, the day being so nice, so Mary and I planted the garden pea "Blue Podded Desiree Dwarf Blauwschokkers" that we got from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. When we ordered the seeds I told the order taker that the reason we were ordering that garden pea was because I could not pronounce it! She said she could not either. Anyway we planted them at 8 per square which is wider than called for at 16 per square. This is our first year planting garden peas and there was not as many seeds as I thought in the packet after some were sent to forum members. Other garden peas will be planted at the recommended rate which will include Lincoln.
God Bless, Ward and Mary.

Good Luck with your "Blue Podded Desiree Dwarf Blauwschokkers"
Sounds interesting, I guess I will need to look them up and see if I must have them too.

Ward,
I planted "Regular" Blauwschkker and the "Dwarf" Blauwschokker on Saturday.
I have never grown them before and was intrigued by the name! We'll see how they do here in Dallas!

Re: Planted Blauwschokkers
I planted regular blue-pods (it's easier than typing out the full name! *giggle*) last year and got a lovely harvest, and I'm really excited about growing the dwarf seeds that you sent me this year Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! I planted half of them yesterday and I'll plant the other half next week. I'm trying progression planting this year because I always think that I could have gotten peas later than I do if I'd done so. We'll see how it goes I planted the dwarfs in with my wando and little marvels, although my husband happily ate the young blue pods of the full-sized blue-pods last year. I think he was so happy to see fresh veggies that it didn't matter whether he was supposed to eat them or not, but he said they were yummy.
Re: Planted Blauwschokkers
I feel better. I stuck my hands in dirt today. I planted Alaska Peas (pole,) Wandos Peas (pole,)Golden Sugar Snap Pea (Pole,) and the last of an old packet of Little Marvel. I do not have a lot of luck with peas, as it always gets too hot here. However this year I am starting earlier than I normally do. Monday I start seeds. Yeah!!!

Re: Planted Blauwschokkers
I bet you can grow peas, you just need to put them in at the right time. I get great pea harvests and we aren't that far apart. I plant them in the spring and the fall!
Fall peas
When do you plant your fall peas, Miinva? I've never tried that, but I'd like to.
I usually plant peas in March here. Keep us posted, Ward, on how your blue-pods do.

Re: Planted Blauwschokkers
I planted 2 squares of lettuce yesterday. I fear they are doomed, but, it's only seed!
Re: Planted Blauwschokkers
I plant them once the night temperatures cool down for a week straight, which has been as late as Halloween. I've been really lucky because I've always gotten some kind of harvest. I like to grow Sugar Ann peas for shoots to have on salads too. They'll grow in the summer, but the aphids LOVE them, so I stop once the aphids show up.
Re: Planted Blauwschokkers
I ordered some of these from Baker Creek, too! I'm also jealous because there is currently about 8" of snow on the ground here . . . *sigh* Can't wait to hear how you like these! =]
