How long to soak dried beans before planting?
How long and exactly how do you prepare lima beans and pole beans for planting?
Any suggestions? I'm gettin g ready to put in fall crops

I didn't soak mine at all. Don't know if that is right or wrong. I just stuck them in the ground.
I don't know if you will have time to get pole beans going before frost, though. Give it a shot, but some niggling thing tells me you might be better off with bush beans.

I believe I remember hearing that you actually shouldn't soak beans before planting, unlike peas.
I'm not positive on this, but I seem to remember my Grandpa telling me that.

Soaking for an hour or so is fine, but if you soak longer, you risk them splitting. I always soak mine for an hour and usually have a good germination rate. Except now in 100+ weather. Here in zone 8A it is too late for pole beans. I plant bush in the fall and usually get a fairly decent harvest before cold weather sets in.
