Hello, I just got started last October of my sfg around 50 sqft total and am very happy to find this forum! Looking forward to the spring/summer season which my garden has not experienced! Just harvested my cauliflower and broccoli, super excited to taste them tomorrow, although they are on the small side (only ~70 gram). I might harvest them too early Smile

Here're pictures of the cauliflower & broccoli I harvested today.

Welcome to the forums from Ohio, Hank!  They might have been harvested a little early, but they look wonderful to those of us in the northland with the gardens covered in snow! Shocked

There are a lot of very helpful gardeners here, and we are looking forward to exchanging information with you.  Be sure to check out the Regional Forum for your area where there will be members who have similar weather and growing conditions.

Hank, Welcome to the Forum from Fresno, CA! glad you\'re here It's better to harvest too early than too late. They look perfect to me. The broccoli should send out little side sprouts. I find that the bees and other pollinators love the flowers of bolted brassicas so I leave them in the bed as early snacks for them. Oh, and the flowers and small stalks are tasty. I have added to salad, sauteed and snacked in the garden.

Northern CA has several zones, but both the northern and southern subforums may have info you can enjoy and use.

Hi Hank, and welcome to the SFG Forum. I'm located around 60 miles south of you and garden in zone 9 too. Your first crop looks way better than my first crop! This forum and The " Square Foot Gardening" books are great resources for beginners and the forum members are always here to help you become a successful SFG gardener. You may run into a few snags from adjusting to raised bed gardening: mostly dealing with Zone 9 pitfalls. There are limitations as to the varieties of veggies you can grow and adjusting soils (getting the mix right), shading, and watering to accommodate the intense summer heat. Don't hesitate to post any questions, we're here to support you.
