My growing area is a blend of fruit trees, permi mounds, raised beds and ground planting. My yard slopes away and retaining water on my plants is difficult. Raised beds (4x8x10") is the cure for growing veggies here. The sun in summer is deadly. Mulch is the cure for my water issues. The ground here is volcanic and fertile but 30% large softball sized blue green granite rocks. I cannot dig without an auger or some power equipment. This is not ideal but it's what I have to work with. 2018 will be my 2nd growing season using SFG in my raised beds. My oldest apple tree was planted in 2012. I have 11 varieties of apples and 1 peach. I will be planting apricot, pear, and cherry in 2018. I consider myself a pleb orchardist and I will always be in learning mode. I am mainly interested in breeding apples and growing organic food.

happy hi Ty.  glad you\'re here from Redding, CA. I do it all, too, and also on rocky ground, but definitely not fertile. Mad Looking forward to your posts and pics, too?

Hello, Ty.  Welcome to the Forum from Central California.  glad you\'re here  We love photos so please post photos of your unique garden, part SFG, with permi-mounds, orchard and other plants.  Could you edit your "Location" to include a city and State?  As a Moderator I know but Zone 7 includes a lot of territory. Wink That will help folks understand your growing environment.  Temps here in middle California can be in the 100's for days on end and total rainfall varies from little to a little more.  Mulch, sunshade and watering gets the plants through the worst (usually).
