Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Yup, the left side of my mouth drops a little, but my speech is almost normal. No marathons, please. I'm a sprinter.plantoid wrote:Suz , I've entered you for the 2021 New York marathon ..keep up the training and smiling .
I noticed I had a bit of a drop in one cheek and my mouth shape was not quite the normal one for anything starting with a vowel.

I remember back to when I was young a foolish (or, it that younger and more foolish?) that I used to look forward to running a marathon. Now, 50 years later, I just hope my knees don't buckle under me....

Best day yet. Leg doing well. I can walk all over the house with my hemi-walker. Garden thriving thanks to Katie and Bob. More soon.

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Thanks, Everyone. Today was even better--went in the pool. Awesome! That's where I'll be doing my exercises from now on.
Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Wonderful! Amazing how much easier it is on the muscles, etc water is...

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Mouth still feels like novocain wearing off, but still improving. No longer feel like a victim, just regular old me with some work to do. In-home therapy should be done, but covid has me too scared to go out, so they're gonna give me a couple more weeks.
Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Good to hear you are progressing .
One of the biggest things I found was accepting that the pains in my muscles after the stroke were a perfectly normal consequence of having a stroke .
Every day I had to spend at least 40 seconds in each of the three sessions pulling faces at my self in the mirror then very deliberately mouth out aloud the vowel sounds in a long drawn out manner making as much mouth movement as I could mange so I could re-educate my brain & muscles for a return to good speech patterns rather than dribbling out the corner of my mouth most of the time .
It took about six months of the daily exercises before things really started to get better to the point where no one other than my wife realised I'd had a stroke .
The Muscles took about the same amount of time to recover but they never quite got back to the original pre stroke 100% ... got to about 98 % instead .
Good luck with your recovery
Dave

Just a suggestion, do a telehealth visit with PT. They waived the restrictions from CMS on this. Call your PCP! Sounds like you are coming along great! Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
TD has something set up with his PT where the PT can see him from the computer and give instructions. Maybe something like that can be set up for you, Suz?

Sounds like yours was way worse than mine. How long ago was your stroke?plantoid wrote:Good to hear you are progressing .

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Leg still improving. Arm and hand not so much. Graduating from walker to cane and now using a power wheelchair. No fall or winter garden for me this year, but the summer garden was a huge success. Hugs to all.
