Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Hang in there. Physical Therapy works wonders after a stroke. I had a stroke back in 2008. I Couldn't walk a straight line because balance was severely affected. But eventually I was able to correct the problem and now I don't walk into the walls when walking down a hallway.

Glad you’re home and on the mend, Suz! We missed you around here, but you have more important things to concentrate on for now. Take care, do what the therapists tell you!

Home Health can be very helpful, and today's PT is excellent.
I'm encouraged that you're already back home and can communicate.

YAY!!! SO glad you're home and doing better!!! There's so much advancement in treatments now that you'll be fully useful again. Did you get my email about the Dr. Joe Dispenza books? Let me know if you're interested. Hugs!!!

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Welcome back to the clan Suz , don't worry about the problems you have with the stroke after effects they are all part & parcel of having one including the pains .
As a consequence of having a second stroke aged 68 I decided to help my feeble brain out by learning something entirely new and never attempted by me before . To help remake workable neural paths in my brain where old ones got blocked off by the stroke . I've learnt how to draw engineering parts on a computer 3D drawing programme and also learnt how to turn those drawings into a printable object in plastic's.
My only problem is retaining the knowledge in my brain at the first attempt … these days it might take three times in the first lesson to get something to stick for at least a month . If it's not used /refreshed it starts to disappear from the neck top computer's memory banks .
I also became quite dyslexic for a few months which must have made my posts on ANSFG rather strange & funny some days .
Good to have you back
Dave .

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Suz, I had a TIA, a minor stroke about four years ago, I got through that but it has left me with a minor dyslexic problem that I transpose two letters in the same words every time. As soon as I have typed them I usually spot it, and it does help having the little red wiggly lines underneath. Keep going and things WILL get better.
Love from Kelejan.
Today a butterfly perched on a log nearby and I thought of you. It was mostly a dark color with a lighter edging. Purplish?
Could not find it in my book of American Wildlife as the book is a general one so cannot show everything. Must see if I can find it on the Internet.

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
I've been away for some time and just saw this post. Suz, sending you positive vibes for your continued recovery.
Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Hi Suz, I've been distracted by all the usual things tht get in the way of life and news or your health problem was a shock. I am glad that you are still on this side of the dirt, so to speak, and wish you a speedy recovery. It is an uphill battle from here, just take it a day at a time, and focus on the good side of your progress- one foot in front of the other. There is lots of research on neuroplasticity that point to ways to speed a recovery, just don't put a timeline on it- we can never recover fast enough to satisfy our expectations. I hope that support for you expands by the day, and now is the time to call in some favors. I feel that, in a large sense, we are all family, bound by our love of gardening, and by the support and encouragement we share with one another. I'm glad that you are trusting enough and can confide with us this awful detour that life has taken you. Stay strong, be resilient, and know that you are loved.

Re: Stroke - Country Naturals
Suz , I've entered you for the 2021 New York marathon ..keep up the training and smiling .
I noticed I had a bit of a drop in one cheek and my mouth shape was not quite the normal one for anything starting with a vowel.
So I spent several ten minute sessions a day for couple of months looking at my ugly face in the mirror and practiced full exaggerated mouth shape & carefully but slowly speaking properly with the right mouth shape.
It seems my brain has picked up the speech patterns & my facial muscles are rehabilitated .
Alison says she only notices a slight change in my face when I'm very tired or hurting , all I have to do now these days is to sort out my brain making a mucking fuddle of my worms .

But it started to work .
