Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
NSR, Many will probably not understand your frustration at the weather. It throws off the natural seasonal rhythm. Roses blooming in January here, but no aphids at least. Bolting oregano and bok choy. Thankful that the orange tree doesn't have new growth.
Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Nobody has posted here in a week. What's the point? We all know Mother Nature has lost her mind, so why bother? Here, spring starts Sunday with a 70 degree high and a week of perfect weather to follow. Our daffodils have been blooming for almost a month. I sure hope we don't get a 2nd winter -- it's happened before -- but I'm going for it, anyway. "71 DEGREES!"
(She yelled at the top of her lungs, then ran behind the barn where all those frozen tomatoes her friends were throwing could never get to her.)

Will be in the 60s, possibly reaching 70, for the next 10 days. Frantically pruning, winter weeding, etc. before things start to bud. The bok choy have all bolted.

All bluster and snow.

Drought, cooled off to a mere 80 today. Slight warming trend the next ten days, no rain in the long range forecast.
If the weather doesn't get it, the animal that dug up all my celery, mauled half my garlic, shredded the few carrots an beets that made it this far and destroyed all my green beans will. It was digging for worms and grubs and by passing the plants, but when mid-60s overnight and a 30mph 5% humdity wind is blowing, uprooted plants don't last long.

This is an oak leaf coated with ice on one side.
We call these weeds fox tails. This side was touching the ground so did not get ice coated. The picture below shows the ice coated side.
The view from my back deck this afternoon. We had freezing drizzle yesterday and early evening. Most of it was still hanging around at dark tonight.

Beautiful pics, Dorothy. Here the weather is getting back to normal, but still not a drop of rain since the first of January.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Looking at the 10 day forecast - The high temps will be mostly above average running around 66-77* F. The low temps will be mostly above average also running around 50-61* F. Out of the next 10 days, 4 days of Rain, 3 days of sunshine, 3 days just cloudy. But we still have a month when the low temps can go down in the teens so I can't plant much unless I want to cover up all the time. This year I am not sure whether I want to do this.
Gotta plant my potatoes and getting close to planting my Garden Shell Peas.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Just at freezing point in evenings 45-63° highs
Been very wet, rained a god bit during the week and most of the weekend.
rain forecasted W,TH,F,S AND S. Will probably be back in the twenties by March
My yard is like a swamp.
No complaints from me as this is the norm, and WE will probably see a blizzard before March is over.
My crocus's decide to pop up, they're doomed.

When I woke up this morning it was -20C (-4F)with windchill of -28C (-18F). But it's been a beautiful sunny day and I went for a nice walk in the neighbourhood. The photos show our backyard and the entrance to the park at the end of our street. The house is still casting a long shadow over the SFG.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
After some days without snow and with the snow almost melting away on the sidewalks etc, we now have another Winter Wonderland and the forecast is 5 to 10 centimetres and continual snow for the rest of the seven days.
We do need the snow as last summer was very dry.
From now on we will be paying for our water according to use, which I agree with as here in my little town we, on average, have one of the highest water usages in Canada.
So many people water their lawns and adjacent roads every day. Meters were put in last year, and according to records I use 25% of the average single family dwelling, but the lowest usage will cost me more than I have been paying since I moved here. I will be interested in the response when some people get their water bills.
Of course, the rate-payers will have to pay for watering all the new trees, shrubs and grasses that are added each year.

Kelejan, keep safe in all that snow.
Here in Ottawa, we are going to get above freezing today (+3C, 37F). The Winterlude festival is on and some of the ice sculptures may start dripping during this "heat wave" (ha! ha!).

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
It's turning out to be warmer than forecast. Now at +5C (41F) and the snow is melting quickly. Expecting slightly higher temperature tomorrow with rain. That should get rid of more snow. The problem is that the storm sewer inlets on the edges of our road are buried under thick ice and snow. The water will have nowhere to go and the street will turn into a lake. Then it will probably freeze into a skating rink.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Yep, TD, that is exactly what we have been dealing with for a week or so. Thaw, re-freeze overnight. Ahhhhhh!!!!!
Today, 40*F but misting/fog....yuck, and somehow seems as cold? Rain and near 50* tomorrow. At least the glacial collections will melt...

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Today ... hopefully the tail end of our cold weathr we had light rain heavy sleet & for a while big soft floppy snowflakes that didn't settle as the ground temp is about 4 oC .
Then we had a great late afternoon full of sunshine .
Hot enough in the car to warrant me putting on the air-con to cool things down from 25 oC down to 22 oC

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
The wind has been howling all day, and the temperature came up around freezing. This means that the snow being blown into drifts on my long driveway pack really hard. My Subaru got stuck for the first time since ever. The forecast is that the wind is bring a big snow storm to dump all weekend. I think I will stay home.
We are picking tomatoes off the volunteer vine growing in the southern window. There is something wonderful about picking tomatoes with the snow swirling a few inches away through a pane of glass.
