Raw - 48, drizzly and windy.
Certainly not the tomato planting day that Memorial Day is supposed to be here on Cape Cod.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Well, we didn't have to worry about the heat getting to us. We didn't need to water the garden either, kinda seals the fact that that we are out of a drought. We didn't have to go outside and put up with the black flies, and we didn't use any gas on the grill.
But, we got to enjoy the weekend together, remembering why we have this three day weekend.

Snow in the mountains . . . fire in the wood stove . . . 46 degrees out . . . gonna be just as cold tonight . . . cucumbers already looking bad. I just found the first tiny cuke yesterday. WAAAA! I'll check the seed packets this morning and see if there's still time to start over. sniff.

Here we are currently at 87F and tomorrow is expected to be 90F with overnights around 70F. With the himidity it feels like 97F now and tomorrow will feel like 102F. Environment Canada has issued a heat warning. For me it is too hot too fast.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Today , it's still cold wet windy & generally miserably cold .
This prolonged spell of the cold wet weather system is running ACW coming in & up the bay of Biscay ,picking up lots & lots of moisture & collecting cold norther icy winds as it swirls round.
It seems that the central point of the dumped rain is about 200 miles across , we are well in it's path for several more days .
My capsicums are in the unheated glasshouse & were five inches tall . They are suffering temendously , have gone all droopy, sick & sad looking
I don't think they will survive another week of this weather . looks Like I may oirr may noit have time even withthe heated UV propagation bed to get some new plants up & running.
The garden is now that far behind , it thinks it's still last year , I'm sure .
However ,my spring cabbages & summer cabbages are fantastic , so is the ever lasting Kale . My onions have plenty of healthy tops & the leeks will soon be ready to transplant out in the beds & my carrots are starting to show greenery at long last .

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Things have been insane in Atlantic Canada.
We've had frost warnings and heat warnings in the same week.
Today alone we've gone from 15C-30C (59F-86F).
Two days ago brought a rain storm that left ice storm weakened trees laying on the streets and power lines removing power to over 7000 people.
Thankfully the worst of the cold seems to be in the past. Here's hoping that it continues to be stable...

The weather map on the news last night was crazy -- freezing here -- roasting everywhere else. Normally it's the other way around. What's a gardener to do?trolleydriver wrote:Sorry to hear that CN.countrynaturals wrote:Snow in the mountains . . . fire in the wood stove . . . 46 degrees out . . . gonna be just as cold tonight . . . cucumbers already looking bad. Cover your babies to protect them from the cold. Suz.
It frosted last night and maybe the night before. Everything in a WoW or covered was ok. The tomatillos sticking over their WoW are damaged and a couple corn and potatoes that became uncovered in the night are damaged. Nothing was fatally injured, but I worry how much damage can corn take and still make ears?

4-6 inches. If the growth tip is broke off or frosted what will it do? Maybe it puts leaves up from deeper down and just looks like it comes from the tip. Guess I will see. When one is only planting 80 seeds one sees what happens to every plant.

Rain! we have gone 5 weeks without a drop and have only gotten about an inch in the last 8 weeks! And last night it finally rained a good amount! Was a possibility of hail and high winds with it, but the winds stayed tame (for ND) and no hail. Garden is looking happy this morning.
Continued showers throughout the day.

Even with the little amount of rain we got recently, my area has officially moved from being classified as an "severe drought" to the worse "extreme drought". We desperately need rain.

Still foggy, windy and too cold. My tomato, pepper and cuke plants hate me.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
It's about 85 degrees, but the humidity is through the roof! It's miserable outdoors. I cleaned the porch this morning, thinking to avoid the midday heat, but the humidity was bad enough to make me want another shower when I was done. We're supposed to get a drenching rain tomorrow morning, and then things are supposed to improve. I just wilt in this kind of weather. Couldn't find a melting emoticon, but this guy looks hot.

How's the weather you say? It stinks! Tropical depression bands of Cindy is here in central Ohio and across many states. I just drove through another blinding downpour. It comes and goes as the bands pass by. Don't you think these clouds outside my back door last night was Mother Nature's warning?

Now Northerners know what us in the South live thru every day (almost) of every summer. But I decided a long time ago I would rather have a hot muggy summer than a long freezing winter.hammock gal wrote:It's about 85 degrees, but the humidity is through the roof! Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Being in the direct center of the continent, far far away from the great stabilizing ocean, I get the pleasure of dealing with hot humid summers (some days get 110) and freezing cold winters (some nights down to -25). Really i dunno if i get the best of both worlds or the worst. But we get a variety for sure! Ooh and being one of the flattest places on earth, there is also nothing to stop the wind. We've had 30 mph sustained winds the last 3 days.

Heard some storms may be coming in so I checked the weather. 11pm and "feels like 99". Should be cooler tomorrow after this front comes in.

Okay, so there's been lots of flooding on the east coast, lots of fires on the west.
Can everyone check in please? Let us know you're okay....

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
Terrible flooding up Cape but not at the end here. We only received just under 2 inches with local street flooding.. Fortunately everything drains quickly due to living on a sandbar.

Re: How's the Weather Where You're At?
No flooding and no major fires here. But extreme drought and a decent heat wave. The heat is actually pretty normal for this time of year. Probably going to hover between 80s and 100s till mid August.
The major issue is the drought. It is so dry. Fires could easily happen. And the farmers and ranchers aren't doing to well. The first hay crop was very small compared to nornmal.
