Re: California - What are you doing this month?
What am I doing this month? That would be "not much" to start out. Here's our 10-day forecast:
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Snow? You get snow? Maybe I could move up there?
My last day of work is this coming Thursday (Friday I'm on vacation & Saturday I am officially retired. My usual graphic for this is Snoopy dancing, but it's not on the list )
My sister and I are talking of moving out of the Central Valley because of the water situation, and because we would like to live in an area where it RAINS! I have poked around Red Bluff, but we haven't settled on anywhere.
We are supposed to have rain here tomorrow, Wednesday, and Thursday, but we will see. It usually ends up "Fresno north & Bakersfield south". Visalia gets missed completely.

We were supposed to get a little snow, but they've changed it to rain. The farther north you get, the HOTTER it gets. We never expected that when we moved here. Our summers are absolutely brutal.Mellen wrote:Snow? You get snow? Maybe I could move up there?

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Just a question. How is the air quality in the Sacramento Valley (No. Valley)? It gets brutal here in Fresno. I can't imagine what it is like in Visalia (South). Actually, the rain is usually north of Merced.
I started walking around the block 4 times at night. Ken bought a pedometer so I can adjust for my stride. The air is so "clean" at this time of the year. Why not go to the gym with my husband? Well, no fancy clothes, it's free, no "see and be seen" atmosphere, no colds or flu bugs, no mosquitoes at this time of the year and it's quiet. What prompted me? I fell getting up from my computer chair and decided to do something about being out of shape. The pain in my hips and knees is already reduced. If Kelejan can walk to town, I can walk, also. Thank you for the inspiration.
Mellen, congrats on retirement!

We're way north of Sacramento and our air quality is always good up here.sanderson wrote:Just a question. How is the air quality in the Sacramento Valley (No. Valley)? It gets brutal here in Fresno. I can't imagine what it is like in Visalia (South). Actually, the rain is usually north of Merced.

Sorry about your fall, Sanderson. Glad you're getting back in shape. Today will be my first day back on the treadmill after my long recovery from probably 2 kidney stones. They really put my shirt in the dirt and almost ruined Christmas, but I'm feeling pretty good, now.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Sometime it takes a fall like that (clumsy move with no recovery) to be an inspiration. I'm glad you are finally feeling better, CN.
Winter is a great time for collecting Starbuck's coffee grounds. People drink more hot drinks and the other gardeners I have to compete with in my part of town aren't collecting right now. I have a lot of dancing on the bags to do to break up the pucks.

sanderson ... I'm really sorry to hear about your fall. Now I am waiting for the video of you dancing on the bags to break up the coffee pucks.

Walk, walk, walk. Well, not last night because it was raining. 0.8" in 24 hours.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Woo-hoo... rain! Glad to hear it!

Mellen, today's your last day at work; correct? Congratulations!

Rain is supposed to start here (Visalia) at midnight tonight. Hopefully this will not again go around us.AtlantaMarie wrote:Woo-hoo... rain! Glad to hear it!

+1 Sanderson: Hope you are getting along swimmingly (or walkingly?)
Thanks! Actually, I am on vacation today. They had a luncheon for me yesterday because my supervisor was going to be gone today. I told her it would be anti-climactic to hear all that hail & farewell then have to work today. I'm DONE!

FABULOUS! Welcome to retirement, Mellen.
Grrrr! It deleted my quote.

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
IT'S SNOWING! Slushy, sloppy stuff, but it is sticking. As soon as it's light enough, I'll try to get some pics.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
It's still coming down hard, and the temp isn't going up (30 degrees). This is what I saw when I went out to get the newspaper.countrynaturals wrote:IT'S SNOWING! Slushy, sloppy stuff, but it is sticking. As soon as it's light enough, I'll try to get some pics.
The snowflakes are as large as grape tomatoes. As soon as it reaches its peak, I'll go back out with the camera. It only snows here every 2-3 years, so it's definitely a camera-worthy event.
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Post this in Holy Snow Batman! Folks won't believe CA gets snow except in the mountains.
Fresno gets snow every 10-20 years!

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
We get snow about the same, 2-3 years though we have also gotten it a couple years in a row or a couple times during a year. We're over 1500 ft elevation though, so it's not actually an anomaly like it is in Fresno!
Re: California - What are you doing this month?
We're only about 500', so even when the surrounding mountains get it, we usually don't, and when we do, it doesn't last long.audrey.jeanne.roberts wrote:We get snow about the same, 2-3 years though we have also gotten it a couple years in a row or a couple times during a year. Re: California - What are you doing this month?
Last one. The show (and the snow) are over. Now we're just looking at 9 straight days of rain (at least).

Re: California - What are you doing this month?
I just planted some seeds, found another pear tomato (which I gutted, ate, and saved the seeds), and found my first little boy blossom on my indoor cukes.

During a break in the rain, I harvested this.
