Re: senseless banter
How lovely to know that I have a Kindred Spirit (other than gardening that is!) hereTuran wrote:I don't know how long flax seed is viable, but you can test for it with a few seeds on a paper towel. Are these fiber flax seeds or the wild flower or for seed production? I did a paper on early fiber preparation and flax was one of our earliest domesticated plants, and was grown in two varieties, for fiber and for oil seed. The fiber variety has few branches and thus few seeds but longer fibers. You can use the wild flower for fiber, but it won't be a smooth thread because of all the branching. I have seen it used in basketry.
I also day dream about some day growing the flax to make something and taking it through the whole process. I haven't really enjoyed spinning linen though but maybe that is because it was tow and I never got it thin enough to not be twine like.
on the forum! All I know about the seed I have is that they came out of a Historical
Garden and they intended them for spinning and weaving. I can't even remember
the Historical Society's name.
What do you enjoy spinning? Wool is my 'go to' easy-peasy spinning fiber. I have some
Buffalo I'm prepping to use for "Tour de Fleece" in July (**found on www.ravelry.com).
And I'd forgotten about the "paper towel trick"...I'll use that. Well, as soon as I find
a sunny area out of the way of the mower! When I'd asked God for "..a house with some
SHADE.." He really delivered! LOL

Re: Senseless Banter...
I think there are, or were, several spinners on the forum at one time.
I spin mostly wool, I raise Corriedales for wool and meat. I enjoy natural dyeing and have raised various dye plants at times. The madder has escaped and is being a pest under the plum tree, it gives a good red and I never manage to get all the roots. I grew Japanese Indigo a couple times, and Dyers Coreopsis, Marigolds, etc.
Do you know the children's books, 'How a Shirt Grew in a Field', or the Oxcart Man?

HOLY CANNOLI!!! I just found you guys! Every time I clicked on my SFG book marks to come here it didn't exist anymore. Panic set it!
Then I remembered that I'd seen Jimmy Cee on Facebook somewhere, found him and he directed me here.
Jimmy Cee!!!
I'm SO happy to see everybody again...
Wonder how many we lost in the move...?

Happy you found us again, CC. I did not know things had changed as I usually made my way here via my email when replying to a post. I also wonder how many we have lost.
Re: Senseless Banter...
Is this referencing the sudden switch from squarefoot.forumotion.com to https://squarefoot.forumotion.com ?
That definitely threw me -- I initially worried my computer had been hacked and spent some time researching concluding it was safe. I see some of the functions are a little different, like the voting/thumbs up feature. Does anyone know what happened? If there was a explanatory post, I missed it. I've been short on time, so I've fallen behind on reading/responding to threads.

There is also a + and - sign on the left side of every post that is not a quote of the above comment. See the green vertical bar on the quote above. That bar appeared when I clicked on the + sign (which is gone now).

Re: Senseless Banter...
I never noticed the up-vote/down/vote marks. I am not really keen on them myself.
I do not think I would ever down-vote anyone, and if I thought they made a good point I would say so.
ETA I have also noted on the top RHC of my post is a slanted line that reads ONLINE.
I assume this is because I transferred over from my mail and not direct. This is why I do not like change, I miss stuff.

I hadn't heard of those books...but I'll have to check them out now!Turan wrote:I think there are, or were, several spinners on the forum at one time.

I have a book "A New Dress for Sarah" (or something to that effect; I
haven't seen it in awhile) that I use to show the process of 'sheep to dress'
when I demonstrate to the school kids.
The only dying I've done was when my elder daughter and I got silly and
tucked some white wool into the leftover Easter egg dye several years ago.
I keep the blindingly bright colors in my 'school basket' to show the kids
that "...sheep don't grow blue/yellow/red wool...".
I give you a lot of credit for growing your own dye! Pretty Neat!!

The "online" banner shows up next to any member who is currently logged in and actively on the site (including yourself, which seems to me to be kind of strange, as if I didn't know I was here lol)

It's like this, BjW; my head is so full of stuff as it has been around for quite some time, that a lot of the new stuff just not stay there, also some of the old stuff falls out as well.
It's a bit like my computer or my house, I have too much stuff.
Re: Senseless Banter...
Yes, BjW and sanderson; a whole week; which is why I had a bad morning yesterday when I could not find the little black wallet that contains my credit card, my library card, my driving licence, my bus pass, etc. etc.I had not put it back in its place like I usually do.sanderson wrote:BlackjackWidow wrote:Kelejan - you remember for a whole week?
I missed it the night before when I was getting ready for a lunch date the next day so I thought I would find it in the morning.
So, I had breakfast then started looking for my little black wallet that contains my current LIFE. I seached everything, clothes, purses, every surface of my little house (somewhat cluttered I must admit), but not a sign of it. Luckily I had some cash on me and when my friend Diane came to collect me I was still worried. I had previously checked my bank statement but that was OK. Then as I was going out the door I placed a small comb in a tiny pocket that I used for it and found my LBW tucked away in that pocket instead of the one it was normally placed.
At least I can laugh at myself and do things properly for at least a week after, until it happens again. One big fault I have, putting things down, somewhere.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Can I make a suggestion that has saved me from tearing my hair out on a few occasions. I've been in your shoes, unable to find my wallet, with alllllllll that stuff in there that we're unable to do without. I ran across this tip, and it's so simple, but valuable. Take everything out of your wallet, credit cards, driver's license, all those other bits of info that are so necessary today, and lay them on the bed of your copier, and make a copy. Then turn them all over and copy the backs (some info there, too). Then put those copies in a safe place. If you lose your wallet, at least you have all your info in one place, and it will save you a ton of time and stress. I've had to use the copies twice, and I can't tell you how glad I was to have them. Just don't forget where you put the copies!!!Kelejan wrote:Yes, BjW and sanderson; a whole week; which is why I had a bad morning yesterday when I could not find the little black wallet that contains my credit card, my library card, my driving licence, my bus pass, etc. etc.I had not put it back in its place like I usually do.sanderson wrote:BlackjackWidow wrote:Kelejan - you remember for a whole week?

Yes, Hammock Girl, I have that tucked away and I actually know that I can put my hands on it straight away in case I really, really lose that little wallet.
It's a tip that everyone needs to take notice of. Thanks for reminding everyone, HG.

The man in this video maintained his sense of humour after his house and car were destroyed by one of three Ottawa tornadoes eight days ago. His location appears to be about five minutes from our house.

Re your cards etc you can also put the pictures on two or three memory sticks and password protect them
Keeping one at home in a go to first, place one in a sealed signed envelope with friend or relative and if needs be one in a safety deposit box .
I used to have all my stuff on CD's till they stopped putting CD drives in some laptops & computers
