Not sure if you guys will be able to see and listen to this video on Facebook but it is very fitting considering the weather this weekend where I am located.

As far as I know S&G are Americans. Could have been a Canadian who used their background track and added the winter words.sanderson wrote:That was absolutely fitting. S&G recorded it in 1964? Are they Canadians?

Re: Senseless Banter...
A little seed and planting humor. I start off so carefully planning and ordering seeds. Then chaos breaks out planting the starts, where, how many . . .

Re: Senseless Banter...
I can relate!
I'm so far behind with my planting/gardening chores, that I'm running around (well, staggering around, with my various aches and pains) like a chicken with its head cut off.
Until I can get my back, knee, and Achilles tendon back to some semblance of normality, I'm limited to a couple of hours at a time in the yard. Not to mention that everything takes longer.
Although my back is much improved because of last year's surgery, it doesn't like being stressed.

You are not alone sanderson. Although I skip a lot of the planning and just move right into chaos. I have so many things started it's going to be a nightmare.sanderson wrote:A little seed and planting humor. I start off so carefully planning and ordering seeds. Re: Senseless Banter...
Which type of gardener are you? French or English? https://ed.ted.com/featured/4KEZyefg
Re: Senseless Banter...
Interesting short video... The ocd part of me likes the French version. Very clean. Very neat.
But I'm with keeping as much of nature as it is & tweaking it, like the English.
In living on a slope, I'd LOVE to take a front loader out there & make some level terraces for more gardening area. And I know how much work that would be. Know hubby won't go for it either, lol!

Re: Senseless Banter...
I am English (born there) and my wife is French ( French-Canadian). Interestingly I look after the symmetrically shaped veggie garden (French style) and she has the more random sweeping curves flower gardens (English style).

Re: Senseless Banter...
For perennials, flowers, etc., I prefer a semi-English country garden look.
However, for veggies, strawberries, and so on, I like the disciplined SFG approach.

curious
I recently re-found some Flax seeds from 2009 that I'm looking
for a safe spot [away from the mower--my hubby wouldn't know
Flax from a weed] to plant them. Since I'm a spinner of fiber,
I've always wanted to "plant a shirt" as they say.
I remember a news article back about 40-45 years ago about the
wheat seeds found in an Egyptian tomb were planted and grew. I guess
they were trying to find the type of wheat they ate;
*anyway, how long have you kept seeds that still sprouted when you
planted them?

Re: Senseless Banter...
Sorry, can't answer your question because my seeds are only a few years old. BUT, one of our members (Josh) who no longer visits this site grew cotton and I am pretty sure he spun the cotton. So you can always try that.
Here is his journey with the cotton.

Re: Senseless Banter...
I don't know how long flax seed is viable, but you can test for it with a few seeds on a paper towel. Are these fiber flax seeds or the wild flower or for seed production? I did a paper on early fiber preparation and flax was one of our earliest domesticated plants, and was grown in two varieties, for fiber and for oil seed. The fiber variety has few branches and thus few seeds but longer fibers. You can use the wild flower for fiber, but it won't be a smooth thread because of all the branching. I have seen it used in basketry.
I also day dream about some day growing the flax to make something and taking it through the whole process. I haven't really enjoyed spinning linen though but maybe that is because it was tow and I never got it thin enough to not be twine like.
