Funny story...at least I think so.

Yesterday morning I was working around the house and preparing to run errands. I was in my sweatpants and just grabbed my spare car key since my regular keys were in my work pants. As I was heading out the door around noon, my DW decided she wanted to get out of the house so she joined me.

Well as is usually the case when my wife and I go out, one thing leads to another and we never stick to a schedule. We spent time visiting with my sister, then we grabbed some dinner and headed home about 730 pm.

Much to our surprise when we arrived home both our daughters were gone. One at work and one watching the basketball game in town. Of course, being good stewards of our possessions, they locked the doors. Since I had my spare key and my wife ran out the house, we ended up locked out. The only one in the house was the dog.

We knew our one daughter would be home from work about 10 so we headed to the grocery store and amazingly that took no time. When we got home, I built a fire in the fire pit, grabbed some drinks from the grocery bags and sat around the fire until our daughter got home. Of course, I couldn't help myself and started cleaning out the beds. Hey, I intended to do it anyway, just not at 9 pm.

LOL! Sounds like something I might do!

We now have a garage door opener keypad right next to the door. That way we can at least get in there. Then we have a spare key hidden. (Some of our students have accidentally locked us out before. Especially the kids who like to play with locks, lol.)

I'm glad it wasn't raining.... :-)

If you have a house door code, make sure you hide the code under the nearest pot plant.

Thanks Yolos for the heads up. I'm sure Lowe's will have some deals too.

I hope this is ok to post here. It's not banter, but it is a bit senseless.
I made a portable burn barrel to roll around the yard and burn leaves, etc.
It is made from an old lawn mower deck and 1/2 of that old hot water heater I replaced.

Senseless Banter... - Page 21 2017-166
If you look closely, you can just barely see some flames peeking out above the front lip.
Since this photo, I did modify slightly by adding some slits towards the bottom of the barrel to get some more air flow.

In the background, you can see part of my scrap wood storage "ladder" that I built out of old wood from a set of back steps.

I have so many leaves in piles right now. I have one by the fence...no make that 2, another by the compost bin, then there is the extra long one behind my wood piles. Then there are the wood piles and the piles of branches...my yard looks very unkempt right now. Besides, these were not many. They were under the bushes out front and the others were a mix of leaves, pine straw and twigs.

I do plan to use some of them in my compost pile but I need other ingredients. Until I figure out how to become a "hottie" my piles are cold to lukewarm at best. I had thought about build that leaf baler I saw, but I have so many other projects. Besides, even after cutting down so many trees, I still have tons of them drop each fall.

You could bale them and ship them to me Razz

Maybe another suggestion?  Mow the leaves so that the bulk is reduced, and place in designated bins.  Or mow and leave under the trees and bushes as natural compost.  The branches from the big tree removal project could be chipped and placed in flower beds over mowed leaves, or under the trees.  From dust to dust. Senseless Banter... - Page 21 Chippi10
When we had our backyard tree removed, I asked the company to chip the branches in a manner that we could keep them. Lots of hauling but oh so worth it. Senseless Banter... - Page 21 Tree_c10

Wood / leaf ash ( potash ... look it up  ) is good for keeping many types of creepie crawlies out of your garden beds especially carrot fly & brassica cut worms .. simply sprinkle it in the soil where you are going to sow /pant
it also has some useful potassium nutrient content .
You can also sprinkle it in the compost heap as you build it , it stores well in a large screw top barrel /drum .

Mix it with equal parts of silver sand when sowing carrot seeds if you want a quick way of sowing them thinly as well as the carrot fly resistance effect  .

Post  bigdogrock 4/25/2017, 6:53 pm

Just a funny note for a dreary, rainy day. I just got my garlic planted, I like to make sure it doesn't dry out so watering is important. Yesterday my daughter watered for me, using a watering bucket until I can get the hose out for the summer. I talked to her this morning before I left.
She was looking out the door at the rain drops hitting the car. She told me to be careful in the rain today.
I gave her a hug, kissed her on the forehead, and told her thank you and I Love You. Then I looked at her and said, "Don't worry about watering today, I'll take care of it."
Jeez thanks Dad... Rolling Eyes

Vacuuming? Folding clothes? What are these things you're speaking of.....??? Lol!

Next you'll be talking about ironing!!!

You know, you'd think that by working at home this place would be spotless... Ha ha! Although ironing IS on my to-do list for the day.....
