Apple day cider party
Apple day was Sat, in our little town and it was a huge success. We could not go to anything but the fire house breakfast because we were setting up for our apple cider party. We made about 28 gallons of cider in half gallon jugs.

Please do. This is very interesting for those of us that think apple cider comes from Isle 3, half way down on the left side.

Never made apple cider in my life, or known anyone who had a cider press or apple-related machine or instrument of any kind. Nor heard of an "Apple Day," or fruit or vegetable day of any kind. I'd love to see more pictures too.

I will see if my luck holds on the posting. Marc our town was founded around farming and the apple and cherry orchards were the big deal. So every year they have a big parade and many vendors and every person who comes gets a free slice of apple pie. Last year over 3,000 slices were handed out so it is a big day.

Everyone brings apples and I supplied a bushel of my own apples and I bought two bushels from a local orchard that sells me his smaller, rougher apples quite cheap. They are red and yellow, that's all I know. What kind they are is not known. The only apples we try to limit are golden delicious which will overpower the cider with a too sweet taste.

Am I a completely weirdo garden geek that my first thoughts when I saw your picture was, "Ooooooh I would love to have all the pulp for my compost pile and worms?!!!"

Nopers! I went to an apple squeezing party a couple years ago, and tried to get the pulp. They wouldn't give it to me because they always give it to their livestock.

Having grown up in Georgia, I can relate, Sanderson. I'd never seen a cider mill or tasted fresh apple cider till moving to Michigan. There are several mills near us, so now we go every year to watch the pressing and get fresh cider. As a matter of fact, this Friday will be our first "cider outing". We usually make several outings throughout the fall season.
