34 Days Till Spring
Yes 34 more days till Spring.
Hope the snow melts quickly and stays away. What a long slow winter it has been. Have more regular style composting to do plus a couple of Berkeley compost heaps I'd love to throw together just to be outside and feel alive again.

Re: 34 Days Till Spring
We are getting water all this week and need it desperately. We had the hottest driest summer in more than 20 years followed by the driest winter in more than 20 years(and unseasonably warm -- we were in the high 50's yesterday). I'm thrilled we're getting rain, so our wells don't go dry. I wouldn't mind snow either, if we get colder again. Most of my seedlings were doing fine in 20 degree weather with a row cover with snow on top. Once the snow melted away and we got another cold spell with no snow, many of those plants finally gave up the ghost.

Re: 34 Days Till Spring
Marc, I've been watching the west coast reports, I'd be plenty nervous about rain and wells drying up, etc. Water equals life!
Herblover, I've had snow on the ground for many weeks and burned through the most propane ever to heat this place. It's snowing like crazy right now too. If we hit 60 degrees predicted for next Thursday I'm taking a large glass of wine outside and toast Mother Nature and beg her to stick around and behave nicely.

Re: 34 Days Till Spring
I think spring is going to be very very late here in the UK ..my green house has 3/4 of an inch ( 19 mm ) of green slimy water in it.
Yeah yeah.. I know ......it's a greenhouse.
What looked a promising warm December has turned into a wet wonder world at about 45 oF ( 7 oC )
Several of the broccoli ( some of our planned winter greens ) have developed black mould and died. The catkins on the hazel came and went , the oak trees have started growing lichen & moss.
Our concrete front & rear yards have started to develop a black slime.. it looks like I'll have to get the 1200 bar power washer out and give it all a blast over with a chlorine enhanced water spray .
One thing that has done well are the carrots from carrot week, the rainbow mix have given some really large whitish carrots of 500 gram ( 1 pound ) or more each
