Is it any wonder new gardeners get confused!

That is not to say there is no merit in his diatribe, but it wasn't particularly helpful, ESPECIALLY to a beginning gardener.

Re: Senseless Banter...
How strange that he says composting is a waste of time when he says he has done exactly what we have set up on site & he's leaving his pile to turn to compost ..
He reckons to have taken time out ,researched many different ways and looked for the benefits .
That he says he wouldn't take the time to collect all the different materials for composting , getting the greens & browns balanced is a wee bit more than stupid.
His stable muck with shavings does indeed have some worthwhile attributes but it will also have oodles of deficiencies especially in trace elements & be tremendously out of balance as well as tending to be acidic .
I'm always very wary of " The Numpties " who decry everything that has been a long time sound proven working practice as a waste of time because they, " Have found the secret that over turns the laws of the universe and have got something better that's much cheaper etc etc."
Had he not got chewed finger nails & a big ratchet gob ,you might even consider starting to believe him.
I reckon he's talking a load of stable muck ( A gentleman's polite term for it ...obviously )

Re: Senseless Banter...
Tangent Alert!
I am currently sitting on my couch with my entire seed collection on and around me, and my Seed Cat is going crazy! His all-time favorite toy is a seed packet, so he keeps batting them, stealing them, and generally making an adorable nuisance of himself! Unopened packets are great to fling like little indoor Frisbees. I need to get a video of him chasing them down and bringing them back in his teeth!

The best one ever I will never be able to top, and I didn't have my camera charged. He carefully sniffed and pawed my seed box, then gently picked out a packet and pulled it out - it was the Catnip seed packet!

It was just so cute! We laughed until we cried! There must have been 50+ seed packets in that box, and he found it.

Typical cat! He knew that you were only playing with him! That's HIS type of seed!
I never cease to be amazed
at how darned smart cats are. I'm always so amused how well they have trained us. We have four, 3 ferals and a Maine Coon. Probably going to order another Maine Coon.

Those are huge, but very impressive. I wouldn't want to have to bathe one or clip its nails, though. It might decide it was easier just to kill me, drag me up a tree, and eat me.

I had a Maine Coon cat. He lived to 21 years. The best cat ever.

No way would we try to bathe
our Maine Coons. They are perfectly capable of cleaning themselves fortunately. Among our family we have a 28 pound male but our female, Ember, just weighs about 13. A light weight.

I've heard nothing but good about Maine Coons. All of my DSHs have been strays or un-wanteds.

Me too, and would probably be my puddy of choice but for the allergies! Thus, the baldy cats! I would love to have a cat that could take down a moose, but I prefer to be rash-free...

This would be great for pathways around the SFG. Or even maybe use them to build a boxes them selves!

That's a fascinating concept. If we made boxes with them, they could heat the MM to extend the growing season.
