Marc - hasn't MicroSoft come out with 8.1 - an upgrade that is supposed to solve the hated MS8 situation??

I'm afraid I won't be following it closely enough to know before anyone else exactly which upgrade did or is doing what, since I don't have W8. I just remember reading, a while ago, that a big update was coming that was supposed to make the desktop familiar again. If I do come across better info, I'll let you folks know.

That's very colorful and cute. Looks like any sun at all would kill that display off very quickly, though.

Very pretty, then I started looking at the sitting idea and thought that is a great idea.

Marc Iverson wrote:Yeah but supposedly Microsoft is going to build an easy option into Windows 8 that will let you have essentially the usual desktop style back, with a start button and all, and the ability to easily get rid of all those fussy graphics. Because almost nobody liked Windows 8 and many people found it not at all easy.
Star doc have a conversion that works on windows 8 and also 8.1 , mine was free.
With it the icon in the bottom left corner is a bit different but that's about all the differences you see from a Vista or windows 7 version.
The big problem I've had is with the latest MS email system .. that took a bit of getting used to
I suggest that you get a 40 gig external HD and load all your saved programmes , emails etc. on to it before you whacking it with Star doc that way you can go back and read your old emails if you are like me and only ever kept them on the original computer hard drive.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Couldn't really see a close-up of the gadget, but it looks similar to the Titan Turbo peeler you can find at Bed, Bath & Beyond. I've got one. LOVE it!
BB&B has a video on it on their website.

Is that the Titan Peeler?
I looked at BB&B's web page and saw the name, Titan Peeler, then shopped it on amazon.com where it's about 2/3rds the cost of BB&B. (I subscribe as a Prime customer and pay no shipping costs.) They have several versions of the Titan Peeler on offer. (Yes, I ordered one. I'm a sucker for kitchen gadgets.)

LOL, we are too! One of Mike's nicknames is "Gadget Guy."
I think I used a 20% coupon at BB&B or something.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Dstack, I'm not sure what you would grow would be much different from what I would grow up here in 7b/8a.
My hubby & I are "preppers." (I hate that word! We are prepared for whatever comes down the road.) We teach classes on small space gardening, dehydrating & canning food, how to decide if you should run or not and what you should have with you, alternative energy sources, etc.
Unless you like hunting & have a sufficiency of ammo, you'll need protein. That means beans & peas. And grain to round out the amino acids. There are rice types that don't need flooding. And Baker Creek has all sorts of grains. Grains are needed for bread too.
You'll need nuts, olives, coconuts for oil. (You'll have a better chance growing the olives & coconuts than we will. Although HD DID have myers lemon, key lime & olive trees for sale in my area this year.) Also, lemon/lime/orange/whatever for Vit C/scurvy.
You might also think about medicinal herbs - toothache plant, digitalis (iffy...), mullein, soapwort, etc.
Your advantage is that you have such a longer grow period than we do!
I'd concentrate on heirlooms so that you can save seeds as H_TX suggested.
I'd also look at building a solar dehydrator. Dehydrated foods take up a lot less space than canned. You might also look at buying or building a solar oven. There are plans on the net if you want to build your own.
And if you've never had dehydrated watermelon or cantaloupe, you're missing a treat!
One word on strong smelling dehydrated items such as garlic/onions: Keep them in jars vs. seal-a-mealing them. The smell will migrate thru the plastic! And it doesn't take long...!
Hope this helps.

Re: Senseless Banter...
Thank you. VERY much! And since tomorrow's my birthday, it makes me feel even better! (Although I think Mike will roll his eyes and laugh about you thinking I'm sweet, lol.)
I like all of YOU too! VERY much!
You guys are very easy to like. The people on this forum remind me of my mother's brothers & sisters. Everyone is for everyone else. We each want each other to succeed! No politics, no back-stabbing. Success.
And thank you for putting up with my wacky/sarcastic sense of humor!
I am going to start a topic for emergency gardening/food prep as suggested by Sanderson. That way we're not hijacking a topic/region we shouldn't.

I agree on separate topic
for preparedness. We have, for over 25 years, stored food in nitrogen deplaced ( oxygen is displaced by nitrogen, I believe)buckets The rice is STILL good as is the wheat. Corn is iffy. We had to ditch a lot of our dry beans as they got too tough to cook.
We have, among other things, a solar oven and a rocket stove.
We are also preparing ourselves "in case the boat don't come" to live off taro, breadfruit and the like. Who knows what might come about and there is no harm learning new ways (actually the old ways). Even if it is never needed. It's call insurance.
