Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
I had sausage marinated overnight in Jim Beam. I sauteed the sausage with bell peppers and onions from my garden, finished off with a sauce I made with the Jim Beam. Tasty goodness. Sorry I didn't take a picture of this one!

Tonight's dinner will include steamed green/purple beans, tomatoes, and salad (beet greens, chard, kale, watercress, and summer lettuce).
Last night, I had steamed corn-on-the-cob. There were three small ears, but still the largest I've grown! Three cheers for Mel's Mix!

Had beans and HPV (hot pepper vinegar). I have more chilies than I know what to do with. Just picked 151 datils off one plant and put them in the freezer until I have time to make chilie sauce. Hot peppers make me feel alive.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
This is actually what I harvested on Friday, but I had such a crazy weekend that I didn't have time to post! Anyway, everything that I've eaten so far has been very good! I made a potato, onion and zucchini gratin last night... mmm!
Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
We just had carrots and broadbeans for lunch yesterday we had carrots, potatoes and broccoli!
If my husband says one more time "Are these from the garden?" in an amazed tone, I will hit him with something!

we made a tomato, cucumber, chives (from the garden) olives and feta cheese salad....my dream came true tonight for dinner....i have wanted this salad since last april when i started these seeds inside the house :drunken:

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
First ever Corn!! - Variety is called 'Peaches and Cream" Thank you Mel! Thank you everyone else for this forum. It was grown in a 4x4 box as an experiment.
I am so happy. Started with 64 stalks, think there are about 59 with ears, majority have 2 ears per stalk. Three wind storms blew them to a 45 degree angle, took a broom handle to make them stand up again while Mel'sMix was till good and moist. Some stalks continued to grow at an angle, it didn't harm the growth of the ears. So how did it taste? Very sweet! Whoo hoo

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Last night we had Royal Burgundy bush beans with sweet onions and new potatoes (yumm, my DH wanted to lick the pan) and yellow squash with sweet onions.
These very dark purple bush beans turn green when you cook them. It was really funny when I sauted them. First the ones on the bottom of the pan started turning green and the ones on top were still that deep, deep purple. He was very excited watching the color turn. I don't think a kid would have been any more impressed than he was.

ME TOO! First ever corn harvested & ate tonight. It was very good. Mine is Ambrosia Hybrid. Grown in my 4x8 SFG bed. I only planted about 6 squares after I pulled my onions on june 11th. There are only about 16-20 stalks but most appear to have 2 or 3 ears.
The goats devoured a stalk I cut and the husks. Cobs will go to the goats or the compost bin. Mine was also an experiment and I am very happy.

Thanks, they look just like yours:) Goat poo (in my case) and llama poo (in yours) make for great corn.
I thought it interesting that by dinner time about an hour after I took the picture the corn looked much more of a uniform yellow color than the beautiful bi-color in the picture.

Rose, I know I've not been reading this much. Good looking veggies! I use mrs Wages pickle mix, which is fresh pack. If you don't have enough cucumbers but have pickle sauce left over, you can put the sauce in the frig. and use next time. The jars that you've already filled must be processed and not saved.

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Lindacol -
My bi-colored raw corn pictured above also seemed to darken a little. After it was boiled for about 3 minutes. Ahh you have great success with goat poo! My 4x4 box of corn was loaded with llama poo, as you said. It was the only poo in there, the rest was composted stuff from the yard and kitchen waste. Just incredible to me the whole process that such humble things like poo and garden waste can make beautiful food for us! Just love it. My problem with the corn is waiting for it to fully mature. : ) Anyway, this is so rewarding.

Ooooh, April. Your squash looks sooo good.
I made eggplant parmesan tonight with my homegrown eggplants. Course, only myself and my twin sons like it. My hubby and my older son won't touch eggplant. They just don't realize what they're missing!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
Rose - my eyes just popped looking at your home grown blueberries! I want my own too but need to read up on it. Do you have any quick hints? They need an acid mix to grow in, right? And April your yellow squash with toms look heavenly. Oooohhhh, I could make an entire meal of it. But somehow I didn't make room for them this year. Must grow them next year. Thank you Rose and April for great pictures!

Re: What are you eating from your garden today?
llamamomma......this is our first year of blueberries....they are planted in large containers.....we plan on moving them into the ground either this fall or next spring....they do like acidic soil and our natrual soil here in the PNW area is acidic so we mixed half our our natrual soil in with peat moss....i dont remember if we used any MM....i will have to go and poke in there and see we might have because we were putting them in containers.....we also put some wood chips on top....we added some Acid mix from Down to earth which is an all natrual fertilizer.....we fertilized again with the Acid mix when it started to bloom and produce fruit....
April.....your dinner looks so yummy!
