Honestly, it's one of the best radishes I've tasted! Tastes like a radish, but has a very nice sweet tone to it as well. Me like I love you

Have any of you tried fruit leathers?  We've been doing one with a base of peaches, but also throwing in plums, strawberries and any other fruits we happen to have. Delicious!

The only problem with fruits is that they are so good, that they really don't get "preserved." They get eaten faster than I can put them away for a "rainy day."

Yes I agree it gets eaten very quickly!  I take 2 cups of unsweetened applesauce, sprinkle heavily with cinnamon and put it in the dehydrator.  There is so much concentration of natural sweetness that you cannot tell it came from unsweetened applesauce. When it is pulled from the dehydrator I sometimes lay it on parchment paper, cut into long strips and roll it up.  My adult kids still love this stuff the same as when they were little kids.

Greens, greens & more greens, peas and strawberries.  Last night we sauteed up some kale with shrooms, onions, garlic & sausage.  Big YUM!  Right now I'm eating a buttercrunch, romaine, Red Sails, Grand Rapids salad with a few pine needles accidentally left in to keep me awake while here at work.

I need to get me some of those radishes, Rooster.  Mine were horrible this year.  I waited so long for some to round up that by the time I harvested them they were woody and it was like chewing on a mouth full of toothpicks. blech  This is not the year for root veggies in my SFG, no matter what kind or how many seeds I plant.

But the yummy greens are not only sauteed, they are in my smoothies, stirfries, salads, pasta sauces, rolled around rice and beans, dipped in hummus, etc etc etc.  It's all so wonderful! What a Face

Sounds like my radish's last year CC. They were terrible! I've planted some of my same radish seeds as last year and oddly enough, they are much better. Weather? Heat? I don't know.

Darn it, I forgot to pick those ripe strawberries I saw in the garden this morning.  Got to run out now.
OK, I got a pint of strawberries for my dessert, too.

I had a great new soup I tried today, http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/creamy-basil-zucchini-soup-10000001728727/

I modified it adding chicken sausage and fresh flaked Parmigian and Reggiano cheese on top for a more substantive meal.

The basil and zucchini were fresh from my garden - I used an onion I had in the cupboard as mine are still growing.  It was magnificent :-)  I froze 3 additional servings of 3 cups each for later.

Eating the last of my peas, because....I cut out all the plants.

I feel like a horrible person!

They were pretty much done producing though; the only flowers that would pod were tucked way deep in the cluster, a lot of the plants were dry and dead, and the heat was nuking all of the outside flowers.  And I needed the room for the tomatoes and cucumbers, etc.

I am so definitely growing peas again in the spring though!  Easily the most prolific thing I have done this, my first year.

I have been weak! I ate my first Aunt Molly's ground cherry this morning and took no picture Evil or Very Mad  I could not resist. I noticed it had fallen off the bush and it was game on. It was all I could do to contain myself long enough to get the husk off What a Face I am weak, but it was delicious! And I have now tried "What I Looking Forward to Most this Year".  What are you eating from your garden today? - Page 40 998388915What are you eating from your garden today? - Page 40 370856013What are you eating from your garden today? - Page 40 998388915What are you eating from your garden today? - Page 40 370856013

In many parts of the US, you can also grow them in the fall. Here in Ga. they recommend planting them in the fall. I plant them in the fall and also in the spring hoping for a long spring. It worked this year.

I have a small acorn squash I harvested this morning and am going to eat for dinner.

My sweet hubby is away for the birth of our second grandchild (he's in Korea) so for me it means experimenting time! I shall search for recipes for that one little squash as it's going to be the only one I get this year. It's vine was never very healthy and when I checked this morning it was almost dead and infested with what I think are mites.

I had to rip it out and sprayed all the squash with Neem oil. Added a huge amount of compost and manure to that square (the original MM had too much peat as I didn't know it doubled in volume so I'm correcting that original mistake) and planted a pumpkin in its place.
