For me, nothing. Too hot, and only getting hotter. When the summer heat's back starts to break, I'll plant onions, garlic, and maybe take a stab at some other bigger cool weather veggies (that purple cauliflower is intriguing...).

2 new pimiento pepper plants given to me by a friend.  Also transplanted some of my carrot thinnings in my Carrot Week box.  The MM is so loose and easy to move that the thinnings came out easily and it was so simple to just make a new hole and plop them in!

Three empty squares in a 1' x 3' box, so I built a trellis and planted 9 seeds of each after soaking them for an hour:  black-eyed peas, Lima beans and green beans.

This week :-
Lettuce starts, CCA radish , white Lisbon onions , beet root ,kohlrabi , cabbage starts and some herb starts like cilantro , parsley , coriander and mint in a pot all done this week . finally put the last of the tomato plants outside after setting up several in the glasshouse along with capsicums and egg plants.

Flower wise the remainder of a couple of hundred of dwarf French marigolds , some more carnations and pinks , sweet Williams and night scented stocks as well as ten or so nasturtiums & some giant over wintering pansy's in the six hanging baskets .

Tomorrow Sunday in between rain showers I'll hopefully catch up with sowing a few more seeds for kohl rabi , beetroot or carrots as well as a few all year round cabbages & caulis.

One rosemary plant.  But I have a lettuce bed that that will probably bolt soon, so looking for things to plant there.  Maybe more edemame in the middle squares and save the outside edges for replanting squash in case the dreaded svb and beetles show up and take out my current squash.

I planted 14 squares of Kentucky Wonder bush beans and 12 squares of Blue Lake bush beans this week.  I will need to think about what is going to take the place of the lettuce, tatsoi and spinach that is going to be pulled soon.

This is the big week for planting in my part of the world. It is either get it in now or wait until next year for long season plantings. Sooooo in the last week I planted 5 types of beans, corn, radishes, carrots, peppers, eggplants, rutabagas, 3 types of summer squash and 5 winter squash, flowers and lavender. Still need to get some pots of basil going but that is not so urgent.

I had to realize that I just was not going to get the melons and cucumbers planted. The greenhouse is not all finished yet and tomatoes were a much higher priority.

Now I got to get the irrigation system dialed in before the rains quit.

Some day I should do some mulching too.

Post  jazzycat 6/16/2013, 2:13 am

I planted a Black Beauty zucchini because one didn't come up (and this one is already emerging), and a couple of extra eggplant seeds. We'll see if they come up. I read that eggplant should be started indoors, but I went ahead and planted them in the garden anyway. The soil is plenty hot enough for them to come up.

I got a TON of marigold seeds today, so I'll probably plant some of them this week or next week. I also have several varieties of hot peppers I want to plant, but I have no squares left. I do have plenty of buckets though, so I'll probably make some more self-watering containers. This time I will use two buckets per plant instead of one though. Doing it the way I did it before doesn't give them enough space, I don't believe. (this year is all about learning, for me.) However, I have a massive pile of wood chips I need to deal with before I spend any time making new containers. soooo...

Hi all. Im wondering.............I often wonder:bounce: In Mel's book it says 4 basil plants per square. It seems rather a lot to me. Can one of you please put me right thinking I'm a bit worried about over crowding, as Basil bruises easily. Its my first year and Im learning all the time, thanks to you Guys Smile

Yesterday, I planted three tomato seedlings from Territorial:  Stupice, Cherokee Purple, and Costoluto Genovese.

Still to go are Beefmaster, Big Rainbow, Champion, and Arkansas Traveler.  Not to mention beans, corn, more carrots, etc.

So much just today! Seeds into cell packs of lettuce for the shade garden, stevia, parsley, & swiss chard.  Then I divided & replanted newly sprouted seedlings of spaghetti squash, kale, collards & lettuce, along with numerous flowers. Tired now, but still need to mow.  Better hop to it before the rain come....again...

Post  WriterCPA 6/16/2013, 6:31 pm

Busy week in the SFG:

The Garden Tent (extension of a local nursery) was clearancing plants this PM so I made up for places where seedlings had not emerged or I lost them to damp rot:

2 Roma Tomatoes
2 Amish Paste Tomatoes (need some info on these)
2 Beefsteak tomatoes
1 Big Boy tomato (they were out out cherry toms, so I will get them at my garden center)
2 Sweet red peppers (and NOW I see my seedlings)
2 Sweet yellow peppers
1 green pepper (and NOW I see my seedlings)
1 watermelon to replace the Asian melons that did not sprout (and of course I finally saw the seedling of the water melon I planted coming out!)

The arriving storm? (this has been on and off all day) stopped me from putting in the herbs I picked up:

Oregano
Marjoram
Parsley
Catnip
and moving some dill seedlings

I got the vertical netting up and built a chicken wire care around my corn -- this year the squirrels will need wire cutters to get my crop! -- the wire will double as the vertical support for my pumpkins.

I'm about to give up on my spring spinach -- it's gone all stringy and wilted -- I'll try again in August.

I also sprinkled shade friendly wild flower mix in some hard to grow places to spruce up the yard.
