Plant when it is cool and rainy? Empty Plant when it is cool and rainy?

Today here in SW France it is only about 54 degrees (12 centigrade) and drizzly. The forecast is for more of the same for the next 10 days with the highs reaching only into the low 60s and lows in the mid to high 40s. Although the risk of frost is past, I am wondering if I should wait to plant tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini and eggplants until it gets warmer. There are a lot of people around here who have already planted. However, last year I planted a traditional vegetable garden in early May in similar weather, and even though I used walls-of-water to protect the plants, they were not very productive during most of the summer. Am I better off waiting at least another week?

All those plants you mentioned like to have the soil temperature around 50*F (10 C). I personally would wait to place plants in the ground if the soil is cooler than that, but I may try to sow the seeds.

Plant when it is cool and rainy? Empty Re: Plant when it is cool and rainy?

I am going to transplant plants that I have bought. For the past few weeks the day temperatures have been 60 or higher and night temperatures at least in the mid 40s so the soil temperature may already be at 50 degrees. It probably will not drop below 50, given the 10 day forecast. However, the air temperature is not predicted to go above 63. Would the plants do better to be indoors at least at night until the temperature goes higher?
