Thanks Turan and R&R 1011!
Yes, it's fun watching them together. It's funny, because when I first got her she was about a year, maybe a year and half old (not sure, got her at the humane society, they said she was two, but there is no way. She grew WAY too much to have been two). Anyway, Michael had an older border collie, and she bugged him, and he had to teach her. Now it's payback time.
bnoles, YES! I agree with gregrenee88, that is a FANTASTIC SHOT your wife took of the bee and the flowers!
I also like the one of the snake in the grass. I love snakes!
It's so fun to see what everyone will do.
And Renee, those aquarium pictures are great! Especially the jellyfish.

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
My avatar is from the year 2010 when I had some gorgeous flowers in the spring.
I have since used most of those beds for my SFG. I was tired of all of the work that produced only flowers. Yes, they were beautiful and I do still have some but the main SFG is now built atop of the old flower beds.
This is a beautiful iris that my Mom gave me when she thinned out her stash.
This is the area that I had the flowers until the fall of 2011 when I removed all of the flowers and started building squares.
This is the woods behind my house. A creek runs through. Each spring these wonderful native plants grow - I don't have to do anything - just enjoy them without any effort.

I changed my avatar to show off my kiddos for a bit. Love my little blondies. I'll see if I can come up with something better later.
Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
This little friend showed up May 2 (before our last snow fall) and hopefully has stayed! A wonderful sign of spring.

Greatgranny,
I just wanted to tell you that I really like your avatar. One of my wife's favorite flowers is the iris. Her absolute favorite looks like this:

As you can see, I have selected the lion and lamb as my avatar.
Again, your avatar selection is beautiful and I am jealous that you have such a beautiful patch of irises.
Happy gardening!

Re: Monthly Avatar Theme May 2013: Anything Goes!
This is an British Robin ( male has the red breast ) taken on the first of May 2013 he's sat on my wing mirror ..we have a RH drive car for the UK ) .
My window is not open ( I have some pictures of a robin with it open, but this is the best of the bunch ) he is about 18 inches (450 mm from the camera ) I was sitting in the car waiting for Alison & Holly to come back from exploring a ruined castle when it sort of hovered and then landed on the mirror .
Our British Robins are quite fearless and tame easily ,we have several pairs around our garden all year round each in their own territory & even more in winter at the bird feeders.
I hardly dared to breath as I slipped the compact Canon IXUS 8015 out the case and ever so slowly brought it up to take the picture .

Yes, iris are gorgeous. The one that you linked to is beautiful. No wonder your wife likes it.
I have gotten rid of a lot of my iris because every time I split them I have way more than I need. If you didn't live so far away I would send you some. They would probably not travel well.
Mine are from my Mom's collection. She had many. The one I like the most is one that is quite small in comparison to most. It goes back to the 1950's.
Your avatar - I think I understand your meaning.
Happy gardening? Well, yes, now that the weather here is finally warm enough. My poor aching back says that it is the beginning of another wonderful summer.

I miss seeing our little British Robins. They are very territorial and can be quite fierce.

Anything goes is really had for me. I have so many photos I don't know where to start. So I think I'll use my hydrangea for now.
This is it's natural color as the Cape's soil is so acid which apparently encourages the uptake of aluminum. Pink hydrangea are rare here and I love seeing them. When I planted a pink one a few years ago it was fun to see multi colored blooms the following year. Now it's just blue.

That's why Hubby and I got them! Technically, we can still be allergic to them, but they get baths so often that excess dander is not a problem. And - NO LINT ROLLER!!!

Thank you GG but I have to give credit where credit is due, the tulips that I commented on are llama momma's! They sure are beautiful! I have some tulips in my front yard and was putting down cardboard 1-1/2 years ago to kill weeds and I could not find them in the fall and I had to cover them. I had all my spare time taken up last year dealing with ferrel cats and other issues. This Spring the cardboard was softened and the tulips popped through but were scraggly. I am sure having a lot more time to do what I need to do this year.
