As my plants are starting to sprout I think I mistakenly planted a tomato (or eggplant, I can't tell yet) and a broccoli in the same square foot. Both are sprouting so I can see the difference. What should I do? I know they each need their own box. When do I move one of them?

When the seedlings gets it's first true leaves you can lift and transplant one of them. Don't forget to water after transplanting.

I've had a couple of those this year...

1) I gave up on some Ali Baba Watermelon seeds and transplanted a pumpkin into the square... Now, the pumpkin is flanked on both sides by gorgeous little watermelon seedlings.... I'll TRY to transplant when they put on true leaves.

2) Just last night I came to the conclusion that I may have mixed up my 6 remaining tomato plants in the grow station. I transplanted them all to 3.5" peat pots and am growing them as insurance against a loss in the squares.... However, on the "Amish Paste" row of three, I have two plants whose leaves are much less "tomato-like" than the third.... research shows that Amish Paste plants have "smoother", less tomato-like leaves than many other varieties.... The third plant looks a lot more like the Mule Team plants in the Mule Team row....

Confusing since I am meticulous about documenting the plant location in my spreadsheet... We'll see when they fruit, I guess. Smile
