Bagged Compost growing mushrooms?
Ok, don't laugh! Well... ok you can I making my first sfg. I built two 4x4x6 boxes and I have purchased vermiculite, compressed peat and the following types of compost (I plan to start composting now!)
1) Mushroom compost
2) Black Hen compost
3) Moo-nure compost
4) Earthworm castings
5) Foothills compost (created using food residuals and yard/wood trimmings)
So I am ready to start mixing up my Mel's mix and I noticed the foothills compost now has mushrooms growing in the bag. Is this a problem? Should I just pick them out or not worry about it? Also for the compressed peat, I just "fluff" it... not wet it like you would coir?
Thank you so much for any assistance!

Naw, I wouldn't worry too much, mushrooms are everywhere. Once the compost dries out some you should not see anymore mushrooms.

OH! Yes, do break apart and fluff the sphagnum peat before measuring and mixing. If it is dusty, a mask or a light sprinkle of water to keep the dust down is advisable. Hen you have a few inches of mix in your box, moisten that layer well, then add the rest of the Mel's mix to the top of the box and moisten that layer too.

It probably is fine, but (being slightly obsessive at times), I would probably put that bagful through my compost sifter (we made it a coupla years ago by attaching some hardware cloth to the bottom of a 2-ft. square frame we had).
