I wanted to post a picture of the bag - but can't figure out how. I have the picture in my iPhoto - when I try to copy/paste, or drag, it just brings in the location on my computer - which doesn't help at all!!

ANYWAY - the compost is made by Whitney farms, and the ingredients say: Aged softwood bark and forest products compost, manure, dried poultry waste, and feather meal

Will this work on it's own as a replacement compost? I don't do my own yet, and I'm trying to figure out what to use...and if I need to mix five kinds for this too?

I did find four different kinds for my original MM. (Thought I had five until I got home and realized that two were the same!)

If you go to the How To Do Things on the Forum tab on the home page there is a link in there that teaches you how to post photos! I would still try to blend other composts in with it if I were you. It sounds like a pretty good one but I always wonder about the forrest products being fully composted and not just fillers like wood chips or peat moss. Does it give you percentages of each ingredient?

That sounds perfect for the 5 way compost mix. I would encourage you to get several, if not the 5 types, to make a compost mixture that will be used as the replacement compost.

I do so appreciate the help and input on the compost!

And I knew that I'd seen something about how to do the forum - but couldn't find it on the forum page. Didn't think of going back to home page! Embarassed

That is is the Whitney Farms Planting Compost your describing.

(Sorry about the torn appearance of the bag above I am currently reusing the bag as a plastic mulch on another bed)

I used it as one of the compost sources in my own SFG bed and so far have not encountered any issues....so I can safely say from personal experience that it seems ok to use.

https://squarefoot.forumotion.com/t11081-first-sfg-bed-went-into-the-apartment-complex-community-garden-today....

However I did not use it as my only source of compost...I would suggest you do as I did and try to find at least four other sources of composts with different listed ingredients from the Planting Compost to add to it.
