Mushrooms growing in roots of corn stalks? (with pics)
Any one see something like this before? I had some sweet corn that I left the stalks standing after picking the corn to act as stakes for other plants.
I was moving some grape vines around and pulled one out by accident and discovered what looks like button mushrooms growing in the root area. I think a the year before last I got some mushroom compost mixed in with the composted wood chips I had delivered. Had mushrooms and fungi all through them.
Anyway, pics, worth many words...
on the stalk.
and in the square foot raised bed.

Fungi makes the soil alive...plants grow much better having it around.

not all fungi are good in the garden...for example Dampening Off is a fungal infection of young seedlings in cool, damp conditions.
