A Little Help Identifying a Seedling!
This guy volunteered, I think he might be a melon? Does anyone recognize it for sure? I'm thinking maybe honeydew? If not a melon, probably a squash?
Any help would be appreciated.

The pointy leaves make me think cuke. What was there before?

It's a new bed, probably came in with my compost. I've given it a full square and it's next to where my trellis will be so no matter what it is I think I'll be fine.camprn wrote:The pointy leaves make me think cuke. What was there before?
I do have a Roma tomato right next door, do you think it will have enough space?
Re: A Little Help Identifying a Seedling!
Yeah, what a sneak! I found an image of a honeydew melon, they have rounded leaves... I think you have a cuke there, or possibly a zucchini.....audrey.jeanne.roberts wrote:It's a new bed, probably came in with my compost.camprn wrote:The pointy leaves make me think cuke. What was there before?

Re: A Little Help Identifying a Seedling!
We'll see, I bet I'll be able to tell in the next week or so. I googled zucchini seedlings and a few pictures looked an awful lot like them.
I think one of my pots I used last year to grow zucchini was dumped into this bed when it was built so that would make sense.
I feel bad posting pictures of growing things when I read you're at 27 degrees! We were up to 80 for much of this week.

Re: A Little Help Identifying a Seedling!
I thought I would update this thread just for fun as I'm eating the first squash from it today. It turned out to be a Yellow Straight Neck Squash.
I don't remember planting it, LOL! Just like the 2 or 3 bell peppers that are growing in squares that I don't remember planting. MAN! This getting old thing really complicates life, ;-)!
I see you're at 63 degrees, I wish we were there instead of 90!
You were pretty close with the guess of zucchini.

AJR this getting old thing ...... that's why I use zillions of long seed labels and a chinagraph pencil to tell me what is in each square or plant pot .

I ended up with with a yellow straight neck squash last year when what I planted was butternut. Never had yellow squash here nor any possibility of their seeds in my compost. The other 2 plants from the same seed packet were butternut.

Re: A Little Help Identifying a Seedling!
I discovered white plastic knives and such work well for that so I've taken to washing mine from fast food places and taking them home. My sweet husband thinks he's married to a bag lady, LOL!!!! I'm getting to where I just force myself to make the tag before I even sow the seedplantoid wrote:AJR this getting old thing ...... that's why I use zillions of long seed labels and a chinagraph pencil to tell me what is in each square or plant pot .

I have to write a list of what I want to sow and write the correct date on the list before I go out the house into the office to find the seeds and make the labels .
Then I have to prominently display the date infront of the area where I'm writing the labels lest I write the wrong date.
