White Specs on My Yellow Squash Leaves (Not Powdery Mildew?)
My brassicas were killed by bagrada hilaris bugs. Now my yellow squash is dead. I've been searching high and low for an explanation of what happened to my squash leaves (which in turn led to the destruction of the plant). I have seen no insects on the plants at any time, but the white specs look like some sort of egg. I don't think it's mildew because it doesn't look like a powder. Any ideas?

Was the plant fine one day then collapsed the next?

Is there any sign of a squash borer? I am going to suggest trying to contact your local county extension service Ag agent, they could give you the best answer for your area....

Re: White Specs on My Yellow Squash Leaves (Not Powdery Mildew?)
Thank you! This is my first go at SF gardening. I was grinning and thumping my chest a month ago, but now I'm feeling a tad defeated. I know I planted late, so I knew this was going to be an experimental year for me. There doesn't seem to be a solution for the bagrada bug, so I guess I'll have to avoid planting its favorites next year. Too bad they're my favorites too.

Re: White Specs on My Yellow Squash Leaves (Not Powdery Mildew?)
could it be some kind of aphid?
did you notice any leaves that have a curl on them?....if so unfold the leaf and see if you find a bunch of them together....
we are under attack from the cabbage aphids.....who would of known there was such an aphid....they are killing off our cole crops....never knew they were there until our plants started to wilt and die off....when we took a closer look....wow....what a surprise to found an infestation of aphids....
our cole crops are under telle.....so we hadnt really messed with them much.....
sorry ramble there
hugs

I just posted about the Bagrada bug now on my corn in another thread.
Southen CA is not the area where squash vine borer is known to be.
Maybe you have 2 things going on. Aphids and something else.
Here is a link with some good info on troubleshooting squash growing problems:

White fly larvae. http://www.gaipm.org/top50/whitefly.jpg
I'm in SoCal and my infestation started a couple weeks ago. The lady bugs from OSH are going to town on them.

THAT'S IT! Wish I would have been more aggressive in pursuing a solution to this. My yellow squash has been decimated. Now I need to find some ladybugs!
