pale green/yellow squash leaves
I had a terrible invasion of squash bugs last year, so this year I decided to plant my squash in large buckets/pots far away from my SFGs. Unfortunately the leaves are becoming pale greenish yellow in color. Is this a disease or nutrient deficiency? I used my leftover mel's mix, but didnt have enough so I added a mix of 1:1:1:1 compost, peat moss, perlite, potting soil that I had already made up. It ended up being about half of each mixture to have enough soil to fill my buckets. I used Miracle Grow early last week and the plants looked greener for a few days but now they are yellowing again. FWIW, its been raining A LOT in middle Tennessee.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Re: pale green/yellow squash leaves
my squash is doing the same thing and I am guessing that it is the weather.
In fact the newer leaves, the past few days since the nights warmed up.... seem to be staying green.
Will have to see what anyone else has to say

Re: pale green/yellow squash leaves
Nutrient Deficiency is my first guess. Use an 'organic' slow release fertilizer to boost your N:P:K. Miracle grow washes out of the soil easily so the application from last week might be gone by now.
I recommend composted poultry manure or a natural blend like Epsoma Garden-tone.

GWN, I'm blaming the weather at my house for similar symptoms. Of course, I blame everything on the weather!

Rose I am waiting until the next time we go to the city to get a pump to make compost tea.
I recently watched Joshes video on how to make it and I live in the middle of nowhere, so cannot get a fish tank pump..
Anxious to try it on everything though

Re: pale green/yellow squash leaves
I am not sure if this is significant, but this bed I covered at night for quite a bit of the last month and only put the covers away 2 days ago, but these squash are looking WAY better than the rest as far as leaves. Last year my winter squash did not ripen in time for the first frost so I wanted to get a head start this year by putting them out earlier under cover.
I am having quite a time this year with squash as I have SOOO many varieties, trying to hand pollinate them and loosing track of which ones are where, and they are scattered all over my yard. So I am taking my Qtip and trying to find a female of the same type....

Re: pale green/yellow squash leaves
Im gonna step out here and say it's a deficiency. I'm having yellowing problems too. My neighbor up the street (has the same weather) has squash and tomatoes that are DARK green and lush. He isn't into gardening at all, just "threw in a bag of steer manure" and he's really doing well. The farmers around here are growing squash, cucumbers, lettuce etc and they're all green. Seems like my MM is running out of gas before the crops are done.........any suggestions? I added chicken manure, but I think I added too much in some spots and burned my plants ...how do I fix that

Re: pale green/yellow squash leaves
In my opinion that is your best bet. If it's compost there should be no burning from high nitrogen and ammonia, like fresh manures will do to plants.
